Up for your viewing pleasure...The heavy barrel PSL build I have been working on for a few months. This was pieced together from parts on hand and a few I had to purchase.Nodak-spud receiver and bolt/carrier/top cover kit from Centerfire,Trunnion from Apex,One of Ronins Izzy Grips and lotza home made stuff. The barrel was a TGI uk59 machine gun barrel that was modified for a mosin that was modified again for the PSL..Has a infinitely adjustable gas block that can go from off to full and works like the air needle screw on a carburetor.Barrel measures 1.15 to about .984 at the muzzle x 24 inches long.Sights are AMD....Enjoy :wink_smal

Wow wow wee wah!

That is a good looking rifle. I really like your rigged up retainer pin for the muzzle break.

I really like what you did there.

Looks like you added all the right extra details to what was already a decent shooting platform. It's like the luxury class PSL or something.

Looks good too. ;)

Very nice indeed!

I'd also like a range report. What twist does that MG barrel have?

Beautiful work! Range report indeed! I like the way you free-floated the foregrip off the receiver.

Great, now I gotta buy that Maddi rpm kit on gb and build something aggressive and long range.

You never cease to amaze me with your ingenious builds.
I would love to build a 7.62x54 semi. Mosins are fun, but this would be the schitzs.
A big thumbs up!!

OK Gent's...Got to the range today to continue the ammo test for this.A friend of mine that collects mosins gave me an assortment of different mil-surp ammo to test and this is brass cased 1954 Bulgarian heavy ball,2 shot groups x two 100 yards to start the session.
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r35/a-kmanator/100_3495.jpg
Well about the 6th shot somethings wrong...big pop..top cover off :o Turns out the brass cases don't like the unsupported part of the chamber where the extractor cut is and peels open like a sardine can.
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r35/a-kmanator/100_3496.jpg
The result..

http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r35/a-kmanator/100_3507.jpg
OK that's ends testing of the brass today.Next up..1956 Polish steel heavy ball.
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r35/a-kmanator/100_3493.jpg
This 3 shot x three group was at the end with a super hot barrel after about 70 shots with 1947 Russian copper wash, not sure if light or heavy ball?
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r35/a-kmanator/100_3494.jpg
Still have more to test...to be continued....kman

Very, very nice. Did you mill make the notched adjusting wheels for the cheek pad and buttstock yourself? I really like the way you did it with the supporting rods for stability. I have a couple of PSL's in the queue and was thinking about buttstock design since I have long arms.

Most excellant, very fine looking work on the rifle. The only thing that distresses me is the welded on front sight. That's going to put a lot of stress in the steel and should be very bad for accuracy. I would suggest you send it to 300 Below for a cryo treatment. That should undo the negatives of welding onto the barrel.

Thank you gent's...The front sight is not welded to the barrel,It is pinned on like the other barrel componets. It's just hard to see the parting lines..The spring on the front sight prevents the brake from un screwing under recoil..will i ever use the iron sights?.....probably not but I had to run the rear sight for the gas tube lock and it wasn't that much more work to add it.The thumb wheels I made on my CNC plasma table and welded one of those long 5/16 nuts they sell for joining 2 pieces of all thread together to it..and it was a fun build and I am still experimenting with diff.ammo to find the sweet spot.....kman

Ah, you fooled me. Thanks for the explanation and additonal photos. Very nice job. Still I recommend the Cryo treatment. It will make the barrel last at least 2x and it should improve your accuracy. I've done 8 rifles and all of them improved their groupings a minimum of 50%. These were weapons ranging from Remington 700 BDL in 06 chambering to M1 Garands and Swedish Mausers.

Well guy's,Finally got to get to the range today for more ammo testing.Today I was shooting some quality boxer primed brass cased Privy 150 grain soft point and some 182 grain FMJ's. As I suspected the previous rupture brass case problem was ammo related,These cartridges shot flawlessly with zero ruptures or deformity.
As far as the accuracy the 150 gr. was all over the place and the 182gr was about 1 inch groups..this barrel defiantly likes the heavy stuff the best. Now time to dial in with some handloads...After I do my happy dance....http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo283/chris87xj/Bumps/happy_dance.gifkman

Fascinating, and I'm not even a Russian gun guy. No it's cool all the fabrication you did yourself. Its also cool you figured out what the deal was with the trashed cases.

This is an awesome build, I like it when someone puts their own spin on something instead of the cookie cutter look!

My winter project: to build one similar to this, and also a 7.62x54 Krink!

Those are some good range results from old surplus.
You have to feel good about that.

There is some real Zen in that design.
One of the best builds I've seen anywhere.

This ^^^^.

You've really spruced that old PSL up. This build is what that gun SHOULD have been. Someone call Cugir, they need to take notes!
