If it's as rugged and relaible as their p-90 series, I'm game!

I hate to say it but my old 45 after 40+ years of a lot of shooting is beginning to show it's age. If this is a shooter and I can afford it I could be tempted. I really want a Custom Baer but it isn't ever going to happen.

Yes, it would be nice if its an affordable shooter. It seems like all the less expensive 1911 copies are imported.

And of course nothing yet on the Ruger website (http://www.ruger.com/index.html) that describes a 1911 pistol.

Like said by Dr. G... if it is as tough as the P9x series (and actually accurate), might be viable. I had a P95 and a P96. Least accurate pistols I ever owned but you couldn't break them. Oh... they were accurate enough. Guess the term would be "combat accurate" but precision, they were not. I consider myself a fairly good shot and, with a Glock or Sig, I need to spread my shots out on purpose on a Q-target to be able to count each shot. With the Rugers... didn't need to try and spread them out. They did it all by themselves.

I guess it's official: http://www.gunreports.com/news/news/Ruger-introduces-SR1911_2904-1.html

(GunReports.com) -- Ruger will debut its new Ruger SR1911 pistol during the NRA Annual Meeting in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania April 29 - May 1.

The single-action .45 Auto Ruger SR1911 features a bead-blasted CNC-machined stainless steel frame and slide, stainless steel barrel and bushing, rear cocking serrations on the slide, and a dovetailed three-dot sight system with a Novak rear sight and standard front sight.

"We are very proud to offer a 1911 pistol, an icon of American gun design and manufacturing," said Ruger CEO Michael Fifer. "In this 100-anniversary year of the introduction of the Government Model 1911 it is only fitting that such a firearm be completely manufactured in America with all American-made components."

The Ruger SR1911 pistol features a titanium firing pin and heavy firing pin spring, which negates the need for a firing pin block, offering an updated safety feature to the original "Series 70" design without compromising trigger pull weight. An extended thumb safety offers improved manipulation and an oversized beavertail grip safety provides positive function and reliability. A visual inspection port offers visual confirmation of a round in the chamber.

Positive extraction is facilitated by an improved internal extractor. The plunger tube for both the slide stop and thumb safety is integral to the frame and will never shoot loose. The swedged link pin also will not shoot loose. The SR1911 uses a skeletonized hammer and an aluminum, skeletonized trigger with an adjustable over-travel stop. The Ruger SR1911 features a standard recoil guide system and flat mainspring housing.

Now it needs an 11 round magazine just because. I would buy a case of them just to irritate the 'Assault Clip' banners.

WTF is with these ramped rear sights? I hate those. I'm a firm believer that your rear sight should have a ledge on it.

I think a lot of 1911 fans will like the fact it's a Series 70 1911.

I know, I'm just thinking out loud. I just don't see the point in the ramp. It's not like it makes the rear sight snag free and you want to have that ledge to assist in chambering and malfunction clearing whether your using both hands or racking your weapon on some other surface.

Got the June 2011 issue of Shooting Times in the mail today. Guess what's on the cover...the same pistol and articles I posted in first pic, just in different layout.

Impact Guns is showing a street price of $629.99. But of course they're on backorder.

That's not bad. Impact Guns is usually a little high, too.

Got to handle one NIB today.

Barrel was very loose when in battery.
Trigger travel was horrible , almost 1/4" before you felt engagement. Even then IT was a long SQUISH until the hammer dropped.
Slide Loose as Freds mom. WObbly in all directions.

Wasn't impressed.

Id stick to a Sub $400 RIA , BUT folks will buy it just cuz it says "Ruger"
