thats 7km with a zero degree elevation barrel, about 8 ft off the ground, and after going through 1/8inch of steel, its full range is far beyond that, imagine 30 degrees of elevation. :)

It's even been hypothesized that we could use rail guns to deliver cargo payloads into orbit.

LOVE THIS CENTURY!

Agreed! It is a great time to be alive.
On payload delivery, that's fine so long as what you plan on sending can survive the G forces of going from 0 to Mach 5 in the space of that ten foot barrel.

That is totally awesome! I want the portable version.

Just remember, what you saw in the video is the de-classified information on this. Makes one wonder the actual performance!

I was feeling nostalgic the other day so I watched the Final Countdown. If you haven't seen it, it's where an 80's battleship time warps to Dec 6, 1941. They have the chance to change history at Pearl Harbor. The time warps reappears and sends them back, but it's truly awesome to think what 40 years advanced technology would do to the course of history.
This kind of weaponry would be like the F14 against a Jap. Zero.

I too have seen and like that movie.

But ya know what.......even with our technology today we would have to put boots on the ground to finalize that war.

Wait.....may be a diff movie. The one I'm thinking of was an aircraft carrier.

FOR SURE !! I remember the days when a new sub I was on had its performance released........could dive deeper than 400 feet and run faster than 20 kts......all true as it could dive MUCH deeper than 400 feet and run MUCH faster than 20 kts.

Of this I am certain. The actual performance is better....prolly much better.

Who would have ever thought a 1950 Olds hood ornament would be stable at Mach 5?
