found an Early SAR-1 today , no FSB plunger but threaded barrel.. :confused1:

Was shooting with some folks and one guy was trying out my Sterling Carbine.

He said, " Wow, I'd like to find one of these" I told him, " You just did, How bout that for the SAR-1??"

he inspected it and all was good.

Pics soon cause It's completely naked right now.

FWIW, I had a Sar-1 back in 2002 ( had 200 prod date) that had a threaded barrel that just had a very slim sleeve tac-welded on over them.

Just gonna re-do it in original condition but go with a barrel nut.

Prior owner put a double hook Tapco G2 in it and it's very smooth.

I got a PILE of AK furniture today too..... :D

I get a MAK90 on monday ....... that's 4 AK's in 3 weeks.

I hereby nominate Helen Keller as an official AK-nut having purchased 4 AK variants in 3 weeks!!!

To be honest, the SAR-1 was one of the most underrated AKMs ever imported because of Century's fire control group and that fact that being a true military issue weapon, wasn't the prettiest rifle sold. There were many times in the old forum I reminded people that if you wanted a true military issue AKM, the SAR-1 was a one of a kind. If you wanted pretty, get a Weatherby!!!

Can't wait to see pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::c ool1:

Oh, and reading that you traded a Sterling on the SAR made me pull my Sterling paperweight out and try to figure why it wasn't resetting the firing pin. Did a complete teardown on the trigger assembly and removed some metal shavings. If it doesn't fix it I hope I can be be as lucky as you and find someone who wants to trade a nice SAR-1 for a rifle with potential!

Congrats Comrad!

You gonna replace the gas block so you can put a bayo on it? :firedevil:

And why not just put a plunger in the fsb and a us-made slanty if you want "correct"?

Maybe go for the AIMS configuration - side folder and forward pg handgard? I have one of the handguards... your's for the shipping as today's bonus for being a gunsnet aknut. :)

OK :) And yeah - welding the ears back on is easier. That's something I need to get up on... I have a big ol Lincoln buzz box that my Dad gave me just sitting in the garage...
