I haven't seen any reasonably priced kits w/original barrels in a while.

You more or less have to visit the classifieds on AK boards to catch a decent deal.

Barrel-less kits are reasonable if you needs parts.

I don't see any parts kits from them in stock... but they do have a lot of parts though, including trunions and barrels.

Same goes for JoeKen... lots of parts, but a complete kit nowadays might be hard to come by...

This is an AK74 Bulgy kit... the only kit they have in stock right now.

Their SOLD OUT of the AMD 65 kits, which were selling for $299... but I think that about 10 years ago when I built my AMD65, the kit was like $150 bucks.

So, $300-ish for any AK Complete Kit is probably a good deal right now...

What are you looking for? If you simply want a "build kit" because you can and to say you built it... have at it. That was my initial reason for building an AMD65...

If you're wanting to stay off the govt. radar and bend your own non FFL transferred "flat"... that's another reason too. OR if you're looking for something specific that's not imported like an AMD65, that's a good reason to build too...

If you're just trying to buy a generic AK at a cheap price... go buy a Romy AK complete rifle for under $400 bucks...

But lots of places have flats/receivers and barrels... you may not be able to find a "complete kit" (less the barrel), but these type kits are probably as close as you're gonna get nowadays. Just something to think about.

I don't remember why JoeKen got such a bad rep... they were even a sponsor here on the old site. But honestly, I had nothing but POSITVE interaction with them... I don't know if their problems were customer service oriented in terms of not providing smithing services in a timely fashion if at all... or if it was a problem with not shipping parts for paid orders. I've had both with them, and they delivered each time.

I guess I got lucky, I got a RomyG kit and a Yugo underfolder kit, both with original uncut barrels for 150 each. The Romy was a little rusty but not too much. I found it by searching old forum posts from a few years ago. Found a guy who posted in someone elses thread, he mentioned he had a couple kits that he would sell. He wasn't on that forum anymore, but I emailed him and he still had the kits, and still wanted to sell. Lucky me!

Joker had a reputation for saying the item was shipped when nothing ever shipped. His reputation was like Dave Michner of Elite "douchebag" Firearms. Gave BS tracking numbers etc. If you got a good experience from joker you are one of the lucky ones. I bought the AK-74 mags for $5 each, then placed a second order after the first arrived, CC billed and the order never arrived. I got my money back but not until the bank threatened CC fraud.

When the Romy G kits came in I picked up a 4 of them. I held onto them thinking I was going to build a few rifles. Then the barrel BS came into play and I sat on those kits. Ended up selling off two kits for 300.00 each and traded two kits for other gun related stuff.

The kits were great for bartering. I paid something like $100 each. I also had some of those Yugo kits not the good ones but decent enough for a shooter. I wished I had gotten in on the AMD kits.

It's cheaper to just buy a 10-63 WASR or Saiga and play with those....

I was looking at apex and there isn't even a barrel available from them for the AKM.

But when you get through buying everything to make it compliant, you are more $$ than the above...

Hard to argue with buying a complete firearm. Centerfire is selling the AMD's for $399.99 and WASRs for $349.00. Really hard to compete with that now.

LOL kidding i know its gone by now,, there really getting hard to find... when i started the kits were 89 bucks for an amd kit
and you could find some for 99 shipped. and back then people were nocking them.. now if you find one there to far out there as far as price.. thats why i went to a PSL kit to get that build craze out of my head for a little while... 350 for the kit and 80 for the recievers not a bad deal... Only kit at the moment that has the best bang for the buck
