Well, I finally got an AK. It is a used Century, but it feels real solid and looks great. The mag is nice and snug. I think it is a Yugo, but there are no markings other than Century AKMS and being an underfolder. Any way to tell? I'll get pics up soon. So happy I got this one. I spent $300 less than I planned! Eventhough the old lady told me not to get one, she took it well. Should look cool with a bayo on it. Thanks to all for all the info I've gathered over the last few months!!

Pics soon

BTW, Atlantic was out of 5 of the AKs I was interested in. I really got to like the Red Jacket Underfolder, but ended up with this one. I think the worn furniture on mine really makes it!

Congratulations and welcome to the disease. Put a pic or two up and the experts will tell you what you have.

Does the receiver have an oval shaped dimple on each side above the mag well? If not it is a WASR variant. The WASR should be so marked.

A Yugo has an enlarged structural area on the receiver on either side, just below and behind the rear sight block.

As others have said, can you post a picture?

Regardless, $300 for any underfolder is a great price!!! Tell your wife they generally sell for over $150 more than you paid!

Edit, the AKMS from Century usually sells for between $500 and 600 new!!!!

Would this be it?

From Century, they call it an upgrade from their basic WASR folder, but it looks like it has Polish parts, Yugo parts, and the required US parts.

That's it, imanaknut! I didn't have time to look it up last night. It was on their site. t least it looks the same to me. I had said I spent $300 less than I was planning or willing to spend. I'm so glad I didn't spend more! The sights are straight, the mag fits like a glove, and there isn't any play in the stock. What else should I look for? This thing is rock solid as far as I can tell. I just hope it shoots. Any pros/cons with this particular one?? Is it a specific model with a "name "or is it just a WASR mutt? Here's some pictures. Thanks, all!

(It is a 7.62x39)

I must have been half asleep when I read your first post!

Anyway, looks like a nice rifle! A mutt, yes, but not a WASR. The WASR is Romanian made and uses a Romanian receiver, but the rifle you have is American made with American receiver and barrel, as well as a few other parts.

Check under the rifle in front of the mag well. The manufacturer of the receiver, if not the whole rifle should be listed there since it isn't on the sides of the rifle.

No experience with your variant, but if it shoots anywhere as nice as it looks, you have a rifle that should cost you a lot in ammo!!! :D

It does say Century and Model AKMS. This thing is built like a brick poophouse compared to the WASRs that were there. Although there was a nice 10/63 I almost got instead. They also had a cool all black Hungarian AK with a foregrip handle(whatever they are called), but didn't have a bayo lug. I got a few Russian bayos when I was deployed to Tajikistan and have been waiting to put them on an AK for years now. So I had to have the lug on my first AK rifle. Thanks for the info. Guess I can graduate to another discussion board now, or at least for a while! :woot:
