Can't say I disagree with what they say. I don't have a lot of faith that my retirement from the National Guard will be sustainable in the future of our nation. It is a reality we all might face. Got to plan my future like the government won't provide anything. That is the safest bet.

    Where is that lottery ticket....
Trying to get on the no fly list, one post at a time.

The argument that military health care is too expensive is one of the biggest reasons, among a lot of big reasons, that I didn't support the misnamed "Health Care Reform".

The second thing has to do with our pay. Our pay is out of whack with reality in some cases. Because every person of the same rate has to be paid the same, even if they are not doing the same job, it messes things up. The Military Times does an article every year, or at least they used to, where they would compare military pay with the comparable civilian pay. It was eye opening. In some cases, for instance Administrative Techs, get paid much more, especially in the more senior enlisted grades, than their civilian counterparts. They you have highly skilled rates like the ones that run the nuclear power plants on carriers and submarines that get paid the same as the admin guys, but the civilian counter parts get paid about 25% more. This is even after you consider the re-enlistment bonus they are elligible for. The pay system is where the overhaul needs to come in, in my opinion. Our pay should be more merit based and less time/seniority based. How to do that is the hard part.

It would be ideal if someone would tie military pay and bennies to the Congressional pay and bennies. See how quick Congress think twice about giving themselves a raise!
If I weren't supposed to shoot guns, why did God give me trigger fingers?

There's a point in your life when you get tired of trying to fix everything and trying to make everyone happy. When you finally decide to quit, it's NOT giving up. It's realizing you don't need certain people and the bullshit they bring to your life.

    I don't know.
Nobody forces you to a particular MOS in the army. You either qualify for it, or you don't, based on your aptitude.
If you want to get promoted, the same rules apply across the board on how to do that.
I don't see the system as being unfair.
If you don't like your job, that's not really the military's fault.
    You picked it.

Sorry that I have taken so long to reply, I have been underway.

I am not talking about liking or not liking the job. I was talking about how a E5 who is a secretary, or now an admin specialist, gets paid the same as the E5 who is leading a rifle sqad or the same as the E5 who is operating the nuclear reactor on a ship. Granted there are some special pays that are given, but in general the E5 admin person is making more than the civilian counterpart while the E5 sqad leader or reactor operator is getting paid less. That is what I am talking about.
