The idea of avoiding pork made sense in "the old days" when the pork could be undercooked or not cooked at all (but preserved with salt). Pork meat has a roundworm Trichinella spiralis which causes Trichinosis.

Proper cooking kills the worm and pork is then OK to eat.

But, some groups transformed it into a religious belief and as a result they STILL won't eat pork.

I have had it before and it is as good as fresh. I need to get some for my bug out kit. They only have it at the discount stores, not at the regular stores here....chris3
