Thumbs up Do you have water to pump but no electicity?

Well check this 170 year-old invention out: http://riferam.com/sorder.html#ecwid...=0&sort=normal

It's called a hydrolic ram pump.

You can also make these yourself with the right parts - and I guess it's not too hard.

They use no electricity - operate off of a 3' or more drop from the source and convert the pressure into a pumping action that lifts the water up to 500' over the source - at a fraction of the rate of flow to the unit of course, but no electricity required!!

If the spring water on our property proves potable, then I am going to use one of these to pump water up to a holding tank for our home use. No electic bill for the pumping, no water bill... just continuous 24/7 pumping to the tank. I understand that they make a ticking sound as they pump.

This is one of the coolest darned things that I've ever seen.

    Here's how it works:

That's pretty neat. Too bad it won't work for a well that is 1200 feet

Yeah, it's only for moving water from streams or springs... but it is still free pumping which is too cool for school.

That's neat... it trades volume for pressure. The same thing can be done with a turbine driven pump. The water spins a low pressure, high mass flow turbine which drives a high pressure, low mass flow pump. That's how those garden hose "high pressure" water washer wands work.

It's a hydraulic version of a block and tackle.

That is really cool... is that the same thing as a "gravity pump"?

Some folks on the river where we bought property use "gravity pumps"... from what I've been told, it used the natural flow of water... some have channeled the water with rocks to a narrow point, kind of like the way the indians dammed up the rivers to a "V" to school the fish into the point... only the point is left open to increase the water's velocity to make the pump work better.

Probably the same. A water ram is just flowing water that pushes into the chamber and compresses the air...
