    Rivet build how to?

OK, now that I've got the purists frothing at the mouth over the screw build thread, here's a thread for the riveters to show their builds.

So, does anyone have their old info and pics from a previous build or is anyone working on one now?

awp101, do you have a press?
    Similar to this one:

I'd be happy to let you use my riveting tools...to keep you from sinning so-to-speak.

    Thumbs up

No, no press but I do appreciate the offer. I'll probably end up buying/trading into my next AK but figured it was worth getting the info back in here.

    Thanks deth!

no press was used to do my rivets. i did use it for the barrel and barrel pin, but generally not the rivets. i DO think i used it for the trigger guard rivets on that build, and it worked out pretty good, but the hammer and punch will get the job done too. i have about a dozen aks to prove that.

the bolt cutter tool os made easily enough, and making your own rivet punch is much simpler than that. not to mention, old ones can usually be found used cheap, espically since most ppl dont even know what they are anymore.

also, my first 3-4 were made all with punches, not even teh bolt cutter tool.

I'm getting ready to build 3 AK's next month, and get rid of the screws in my rear trunnion on my SAR-1 with a left folder. I saw a jig for a press before we went down, but didn't save any of the info. Looked simple enough, I just need to finish building the press and get a few items for the rivets and be good to go, I hope!

Wish I knew where you were. I'm in New Orleans, and I'd love to help you. I have about 25 under my belt, but we have several folks around here a damned sight better than me, but in a pinch I'd do.

Don't sell your self short... I've seen pics of several of your builds and they'll stand up with the best out there!!!
