The one I've handled I like the best is the Sig 220, not really a 1911 style, but I like the feel.

Don't know why you left off the Springfield Mil-Spec or GI Issue. I have the GI Issue and just love it. Here is the link to the Mil-Spec site.

I have a Smith 4586 that's sweet. Heavy though. Springfield GI that I've added upgrades to (nothing permanent though) that I like a lot. Sig P220 that is also excellent and finally a Springfield XD45 that is hard to beat.

And of course there's the G21 now available in an SF version if you have midsized mitts like me...

Just depends on what you want.

If it's a 1911 then I think the Remington looks very good but have to recommend the Springfield based on my own experience.

Somebody on glocktalk pointed out low end springfields have a 2piece barrel? Wtf?
Want something with a light crisp trigger. Already got a g19 for concealment, quick draw combat

I had a springfield Milspec for a while. It had a crappy trigger but it went bang every time I pulled it. I put a few thousand rounds through it without any problems. I'd say it is a great entry level 1911 but I personally preferred a better trigger and on the 1911 its not really a DIY modification.

For a target pistol I like my kimber but I am not a fan of the 80 series -ish firing mechanism for a home defense gun. I'd probably get the loaded 5" 1911 and replace the ILS main spring housing with one that didn't have the ILS

All 1911's have "two piece" barrels - barrel with linkage.

    It's a proven design.

And the trigger is one of the things that I switched out with a Wilson target trigger on my Springer.

osok, on the lower end springfields the chamber and lugs are a separate piece from the rest of the barrel and is brazed to the barrel

Any of those might be worth looking into as well.

On my GI Issue the barrel is one piece, except for the linkage.

Lower end Springfields? Mine is one piece - is the Government model. That is yes, one piece barrel/chamber and the linkage is pinned on as is usual...

I'll be in a market for a 1911 myself shortly. The Ruger looks nice, but I'm not ready for another stainless gun.

I have four ParaOrdnance pistols and absolutely love them. My first pistol was a P14. Since then I've also bought a C6.45 (one of my main carry guns) and two SF-45-A pistols (basically a P14 BLACK OPS model, offered as a special deal to deployed personnel in group-buys with laser-engraved unit insignia).

    The issues:

P14: It had a lot of feeding issues new. Replaced the barrel with a Bar-Sto. Reliability increased with the new barrel and a lot of shooting. Probably not relevant to new Paras since this gun was made in the early '90s.

C6.45: Great pistol, not so great factory magazines. Runs flawlessly with Wilson mags.

SF-45-A: Great pistol but magazines need to be broken in. Almost impossible to load 14 rounds into a new magazine. If you are able to load 14 rounds, the pistol won't cycle reliably. More than 10 rounds in a new magazine causes problems. Runs great with my fully-loaded older magazines.

Put a Jarvis threaded barrel in one of the SF-45-A pistols and run it with a YHM Cobra suppressor. One of my favorite pistols.

If I had a dollar for every time CAPITALISM was blamed for problems caused by the GOVERNMENT, I'd be a fat filmmaker with a baseball cap.

12 string guitars only have 6 extra strings, but they're 85 TIMES as likely to be used in a song about wizards.

I like big 'bots and I cannot lie...
I got the model from Bandai.
