By We, I'm not speaking for all of Gunsnet. Gunsnet members all have varied political affiliations and viewpoints.
I mean, "we" as in I am a self pronounced Partisan Republican. At least I'm honest about it.
But I heard AGAIN, the same quip from a liberal that Republicans were both Sexist and Racist, which is why they don't like Obama.
I immediately thought to the recent past.
1) A woman named Sarah Palin created some of the most excitement i've seen in a long time. Sure she rose and fell and has some baggage, but that had NOTHING to do with her gender. Republicans who were thrilled with her cared not one bit about her being a woman.
2) Another woman later named Michele Bachmann started making waves. Again she garnered a lot of support early, but fell later, due to the fact that she couldn't galvanize core GOP voters the same way another candidate did who was ....
3) a BLACK man named Herman Cain, who was plain spoken and had a plan. Sure his own baggage did him in, but again, he was popular, well liked and a rising star in the Republican political circles. The charges of sexual harassment against him, despite making someone a celebrity with DEMOCRATS (think Clinton), doesn't fly with Republicans.
4) So now we hear about someone who might throw their hat into the ring for V.P., Condoleeza Rice who is both BLACK and a WOMAN. Again, I've seen nothing but effusive praise for her from conservatives, Republicans and some Libertarians.
Seeing all of this over the past 18 months, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the notion that Republicans are somehow Racist and Sexist. Since being any of those means that you'd dismiss or be against someone, even someone who held YOUR beliefs if they were of the 'wrong race' or 'gender'......
One can argue all they want if the GOP is wrong, or misguided on policy or strategies. But the Racist/Sexist charge is just such bullshit that I can't even fathom how people can throw it as a blanket statement like the Liberals do....
