Anybody watched J Edgar with DiCaprio?

I read the biography of J Edgar Hoover called Puppetmaster. It was an enormous book but a very good read. I would be interested to know if the movie is any good.

Friends saw it and filled me in since I haven't been to a theater since the first Indiana Jones movie.

Their take was similar to a review I read.
Eastwood bought into the J Edgar is gay BS and the movie focuses on that.
The friends said that focus more of less ruined it for them.

On a side note, the people who knew Hoover better than anyone on earth and hated him the most were the old headquarters agents. To a man they said Hoover was not gay.
In an interesting bit of info, Ernest Borgnine said in his autobiography that Hoover carried on a 20 year affair with Dorothy L'Amour.

I have read a different biography, and do believe he was gay. I am torn over his legacy, as on one hand he truly DID protect this country from communists and communism, but on the other, he did abuse power quite a bit.

It was, in my opinion, a good movie that for what I have read was fair to him.
    "What sick, barbaric bastards.

It's one thing to use terrorism to make a political statement, but the wanton mutilation and suffering of innocents? How does that forward your political goals? When done in the name of religion, how does that earn you brownie points with God?

Fuck religious extremism. And especially fuck the "religion of peace." "

So, lagcsocialist supports terrorism AS LONG AS ITS FOR POLITICAL ENDS....

    Thumbs down

Everything I read or heard about him.....

I think he was BI, and a socialist like no tomorrow. He adored some of the biggest piece's of shit in human history.

    Puppet-master sums it all up......

EDIT: I do not have anything against BI's....

I'm a product of the 80's so not only is my wife one, almost every female born during that decade is.

I think he had so many demons, it's all too easy for people to blame his sexuality for his evilness (they did the same for Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Kim etc. etc. etc.)

In Puppetmaster, the author leaves it to the reader to decide. he only gives the facts that were known. That he and Tolson were close, that he had a spare bedroom for his friend, and they ate lunch nearly every day at the same restaurant. And yes he was in love for a spell with L'Amour, but she was in love with a tall handsome actor whos name escapes me right now.

But he didn't buy into the Kennedy bullshit and that counts with me.
