Asking For I.D. Before Voting Is ‘Racist’....

Feel sorry for you guys living in Illinois. Seems as if the idiots never stop.

Asking For I.D. Before Voting Is ‘Racist’, But You Need Govt. I.D. To Buy Drain Cleaner?

Does that sound like a joke?

It’s not a joke. It‘s the reality in President Obama’s home state.

Illinois has a new law that took effect on January 1 requiring all people who purchase drain cleaners or any caustic substances to provide a government issued photo ID. And retailers now must ask for identification from those buying drain cleaners and maintain extensive records of which caustic products have been purchased, in what amounts, and by whom.

The law came about after two Illinois women were burned by acid attacks back in 2008. One of the women later admitted to burning herself with acid, but the law was still pushed through the system.

Kind of like how you can only buy 2 boxes of Sudafed or they think you\'re trying to cook meth.

80 years ago you could buy machine guns through the mail, no questions asked.

How did we ever survive before all these nanny-state laws went on the books???
"That tyranny has all the vices both of democracy and oligarchy is evident. As of oligarchy so of tyranny, the end is wealth; (for by wealth only can the tyrant maintain either his guard or his luxury). Both mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of their arms." -- Aristotle, Book V, 350 B.C.E

No surprise on my part. Us serfs can't take care of ourselves, so our "betters" have to do it for us. Just more proof that "you reap what you sow" and blaming the inanimate object and not the person/people using said object, especially with dumbasses voting for that gov't cheese they're always promised. But please don't just all of us. Get outside of Chitcago and the 'burbs, basically south of I80 and most of the rest of us are "normal." lol
"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them. ... Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever."--Thomas Jefferson

I've been voting since 1968 and they've always asked for ID, or, if they knew you, you just had to confirm your address. I always thought that was just to make sure no one tried to scam the system.

As for drain cleaner, I don't buy that stuff. It's hell on a septic system.

Here you have to register at the Court House at least a month in advance of an election. You produce your I.D. and they give you a voters card. Then you are placed on the voters list for where you vote. When you vote, your name is marked as voted.

The black lady at the Court House who registered me said it was stupid not to ask for I.D.

Yeah I hate that. This time of year I have allergies and Claritin D works like a charm. Problem is I have to show my D/L and sign a stupid sheet of paper declaring that I'm not using the pseudoephidrine for making meth... and I can barely buy enough to use anyway (limited to 3.6 grams per month) which is less than 30 pills.

Why not use the fancy ARCOS system to track large PSE purchases instead of treating ordinary people like criminals?

Angry Just within the last few months...

I had to provide an ID to buy a bottle of wine. I am 67 years old. Of course, I am registered Republican. If I was registered dimokrat, I would not have to provide a government ID. Proof? Look at all those illegal ailens and people on welfare that don't have to show an ID to cash their freebie checks.....chris3

I've always been of the opinion that ALL(well, most) of the screw ups in the last 20+ years or so can be attributed to "political correctness".......

80 years ago would be about 1932.

My personal marker is 1901 when Teddy Roosevelt became president. Teddy, to my knowledge, was the first Progressive president. He took office in 1901 after McKinley was shot and was elected for another term on his own. Teddy promised to not run again for president but broke that promise by forming the Bull Moose party and siphoning off enough votes to get Wilson elected.

If Teddy was Progressive light, Wilson was damn sure Progressive heavy.

FDR's Socialist agenda was entitled the "NEW DEAL". Teddy's, though less well known, was the "SQUARE DEAL".

Yes, Teddy also won a Nobel Peace prize.

Woodrow Wilson-League of Nations; FDR National FireArms Act 1934/Machine Gun Ban, SBR, silencers all banned; LBJ gave us Gun Control Act of 1968 GCA-68'; Clinton the Assault Rifle Ban; and 0re0Bama is giving us what I call the RAW Deal... gun restrictions to be introduced after re-election.

If we're going to push it back through American politics can we go back to Thomas Paine in 1795 who writes in Agrarian Justice that every citizen should get a yearly salary from the government due to our lack of natural inheritance because private property has stripped us of such?

I wasn't the one who said (in this thread atleast ) something happened 80 years ago that lead to the nanny state we have in effect today. I only only pointed out that 80 years we entered a new era of socialism in America. It just seemed odd to me that our most socialist member couldn't connect those dots.

I wasn't quoting anyone in particular, just stating the facts. That particular thread has always run through politics in one name or another, and its been in American politics since the beginning.

I find it interesting that the same people who bitch and whine that the government shouldn't have our info and shouldn't require us to have ID's seem to have two exceptions on that train of thought, immigration and voting booths.

My local polling place has a roll, to get on the roll I had to prove I lived in the district, I walk up to a judge and tell them my name, they find it on the roll next to my address and a copy of my signature, I sign next to that and am handed a ballot.

I've never walked in to find someone else had voted for me before I got there. Nor have I seen extra people living at my address. I really don't see the problem.

I have ID, plus a voter card, but have never been asked for it.
