A useful question asked by and answered for a customer
The FMJ ball you want is generally heavier ( say between 170gr and 182 ) although there are some 149gr " light ball" that will work with enough recoil impulse for the PKM . Not all 7.62 x 54R is created equal. Additionally, if some is made to European Civilian CIP standards this is not "Eastern Standard Mil Spec" (not to be confused with U.S. Mil Spec) and will most likely fail in a PKM with not enough recoil impulse to run the gas/operate the bolt and belt. The USG already tried this once and was about to do it again until we corrected them (different USG customer as they don't always talk to one another) What you can "get away with" in a AK/7.62x39 is much different in what you can get away with in a PKM. The AK/7.62x39 is more tolerant to bad ammunition mismatches.
We have posted this on our original posting to aid people in military procurement avoid making critical mistakes on 7.62 x 54R PKM link belts and ammunition. Mistakes that could be fatal for the people in the field who depend on this gun for their mission. Read and reach your own conclusions.
Technical update added to the beginning of this post for interested PKM users and buyers
Regret that we are still waiting for a viable import on these cans
We are still waiting to justify our next import. We need enough goods to fill a 20ft sea container otherwise the import cost becomes prohibitive. The 100 rd new production aluminum PKM cans were just under $35.00 USD each in 5 or more, and we would like to keep them in that range again

We regret that all of the AK-47/AKM magazines have now been sold to an export customer and we are no longer able to offer the price based on 2007 new inventory. While we still have new production PKM links in the United States for domestic delivery the AK-47/AKM magazines are sold out
This PKM link post is fine, but we cannot seem to delete the AK-47/AKM magazine post
We were also asked about DSHK Tripods and I thought I would share this answer with the group
DSHK Tipods is something that we would like to bring into the US as we support both the gun and 12.7 x 108mm ammunition.
With the current craziness overseas we expect our Domestic PKM link inventory to be wiped out and more PKM links, 100rd cans can come in with the next sea container. We would actively work to add DSHK tripods to that mix
One person asked why not buy a single surplus belt at $40.00 each elsewhere rather then investing in a case of qualified new production links at a lower cost and the answer was worth sharing with the group below
The belts we have a qualified new factory production with both production and MOD certification. The belts you refer to are bought as surplus scrap metal by the pound, and you do get what you pay for.
These importers are buying on price alone an maximizing profits
Ours are used in combat for military use. Sometimes surplus is great and it works, sometimes it is not. The difference is that when you are carrying a PKM in the field or on outpost or a checkpoint, the gun cannot fail or your buddies end up in body bags or being beheaded on a Ytube Video. The USG has bought over 10,000,000 of these links from us as links have to be treated like certified aircraft parts, climbing ropes or parachutes. You cannot load a PKM with a coal shovel if the PKM link fails.

Regret no ETA on the 100rd cans yet. The US Government purchasing on these items seems to be hibernating and we need to bring in a 20ft sea container of them for US consumption only or we loose money or have to jack up the price to cover a small import which is counter productive and will also loose money as well. Our plan is to add them to the next US domestic import, either for the USG use or civilian use or both
please keep us posted. if there is any way to sign up to be notified when they come in let me know, i am in for several, as well as links.
We have the 200 & 250 rd cans in the US now. The ETA on the 100rd cans we regret that we don't have yet. Larger military orders usually don't enter the US
The 7.62 x 54 R ammunition are primarily military orders however we would like to have case lost available to the public (ball only) when some of the military business slows down

Regret we are still having issues bringing in more new production 100rd Aluminum PKM cans that some have asked about as the use of steel offered by a subcontractor defeats the purpose of light weight for a can that becomes part of the guns overall combat weight
