Don’t believe bureaucrats, unemployment is really 11.4 percent

    Excerpts from the Washington Times

The White House has trumpeted recent rosy employment figures. The December unemployment numbers showed a drop to 8.5 percent, down 0.2 percent from the previous month and over half a percentage point from August.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in the last 12 months, a net of 1.5 million more Americans found work. This sounds like good news, but the civilian non-institutional worker population increased by 1.7 million over the same period

Only those working or actively seeking employment “count” in the unemployment statistics. The discouraged, the dropouts and those who don’t even bother trying to find work aren’t included in the official unemployment rate. While the potential worker population rose last year by 1.7 million, the official workforce only went up 275,000. Counting like that makes it easier to report better employment numbers.

It’s twisted that President Obama benefits from a flawed formula that generates a positive outcome when frustrated potential workers simply give up. This is what passes for progress in the jobless economy. The Washington Times

I think the 'realer' unemployment number is about 16%.

Barry is benefiting from the cooked books but was not the original chef.

I agree with Wart - at least 16% and probably much higher. They conveniently leave out people that have run out of unemployment time and those who have stopped looking.

Until the healthscare bill is repealed, businesses in this country will be "on hold" - that is what needs to be done and obummer must be removed in order to achieve that.

Yes, but you don't complain about terrible food to the chef who hasn't worked there for three years, you complain to the one cooking.

I agree on the 16%, here in Las Vegas it is far worse, maybe 20% or more.

The whole country is held hostage by obamacare and tons of other restrictive regulations and won't get better till we have a new pres!

Yep, a lot to do. I mention obamacare as it affects all small businesses.

The company I work for will have to add 120 employees to the healthcare program that they were not required to offer it to - we only have something like 280 employees. Think of the increased cost to the company! This and the increasing cost of the insurance will force them to cease offering healthcare insurance and take the small fine hit. This will leave most of our employees with little option but to go on the obomacare program - and the rest will be thrown out to fend for ourselves with whatever program we can find.

    Total bullshit.

Yes and without question. I saw an interview with the founder of Staples and (I think) Best Buy a couple of weeks ago. Both said they could never start their business under today's regulations.

The third person in the interview was a banker who explained new banking regulations basically excluded loaning to small business. Since small business accounts for about 70% of new jobs growth, I would say we're pretty well screwed.

and won't get better till we have a new pres!
I don't believe a new president will much matter.

Look at Barry care. Mittens will have a look and declare that if the name is changed from Barry Care to Mittens Care everything will be A OK !!

Since 2006 I only believe in the certainty both Democrats and Republicans are corrupt.

Remember, in 10 months the Rethuglican controlled house increased the debt by just over $1 trillion dollars. I am unable to believe in President Mittens' ability to invoke meaningful positive change.

Can't argue that the system, and most involved are corrupt, but it is better to hope for a better future than to lament the hand dealt.

We're in a similar situation over here in the UK. The true unemployment rate, although difficult to calculate, probably runs at about 15% at the moment.

This is due to a double hit of job insecurity in the private sector and a culling of public sector staff at a phenomenal rate.

Our govt is burying its head in the sand and hoping for things to get better - without any rational basis for thinking so. Yours the same?

Last article I read it was 22% using the best figures they had and being optimistic. A lot of people dropped out of the work force because the socialist net to cushion them during hard times has gotten so comfortable they can live with what they get from social agencies. Nobody telling them they have to get up or what to do and when to do it. I would kill for a job and some are reveling in not having one.
