    I curse you Linx310

He infected me with the green disease.

Here is my M1009 just home from a drive from Sparta, WI, Fort McCoy. I paid a gentlemen to remove it from the base and store it for a few days as I couldn't get down there in time to remove it myself.

32,000 miles(could be 132,000?) but considering the way it runs and drives and interior probably 32K. Has both doors dented, At least one rocker panel needs replacement but floor is solid except for some surface rust on the drivers side floor. The diesel engine ran great after being jump started( one weak battery), I ran home at 65-70MPH on a half tank of fuel(200+ miles). First thing, I need a friggin RADIO! 3 hours or so without a radio is way to long to drive.
Back window has a sign on it "don't roll down the window" so I guess I need to remove the inner panel and see why not.

I've got the green disease and my wife is starting to wonder.....

Didn't you get an old 2.5 ton truck not long ago? At this rate you'll need to start adding some armored vehicles into the mix.

I'm curious, what is parts availability like for these vehicles?

    Some questions...

    How much?
Did you go through a website?
Did you see a FEMA camp while in Sparta? Supposed to be a huge one down there.

And yeah - inquiring minds want to know - what was the auction price?

Believe me I want armor soooo bad. As usual, we can buy foreign armor, but we can't buy new US stuff. I've seen some tanks(think British Chieftain from Desert Storm) for about 65K, a little out of my league not including shipping. Parts for the 2.5 ton are pretty available except for the CTIS, wheel bearings($hundreds of dollars a piece), though the guy who invented the CTIS system is generous in helping third party users. As far as this vehicle except for the 24V starting system and glow plug system it's pretty much stock Chevy Blazer AFAIK so far. If you buy an A2 for a 2.5 ton, there are parts a plenty.

    $1461 + 10% auction fee. Second vehicle I've bought through www.govliquidation.com
No, I didn't see a FEMA camp, but I didn't go on base for this one. Didn't have the time window to retrieve it from Camp McCoy, I paid a soldier who works and lives near the base to retrieve it and store it for a few days till I could get down there today.

Ran excellent. Exceeded my expectations. I had my Dodge 2500 loaded up with tools and a towbar as this was the second MV I've bid on without a preview. Two for Two, call me MR. Lucky, both MV's have been driven home no problems while I've loaded my truck for bear. $1461

    Congrats!!! That's awsome.

And that's for a v-8 deisel that gets around 18mpg. That thing should keep running for a long time!

All of my money is tied up in getting my new house built...

Thanks my friend. I foresee lot's of little items that need $$$ but yeah it beats my Dodge at 12 MPG. I usually use my Mystique at 27-30 MPG but it sucks ass in any kind of weather, this will be my weather vehicle.

Where are you building and what? It's been 17 years since we had our house built, maybe I could give some pointers in what to have built in( I've found my lack of foresight lacking through the years) .

I'm kind of surprised you could buy something as recent as what was used in desert storm from the british. I think it would contain the special chobam armor that's such a big secret. What about Russian stuff? Years ago I think someone posted links here to a website that sold russian APCs. Not cheap, but definitely a lot cheaper than 65k for a chieftain. What about older American tanks, like a sherman?

Shermans are rare you're talking BIG BUCKS. Sad that the gov't made razorblades of all our war equipment we paid for. A friend of mine who I bought my machinegun from got burnt trying to import APC's and a T72 from former soviet block gov'ts.

I'm pretty sure it was a Chieftain, was definitely in Desert Storm, can't find it on the net now, probably sold.

It was beautiful yesterday. 30's. Last couple days and the forecast is single digits. Can't complain, it took until a week ago to get to winter.

Since the thread where everyone was showing the 2.5's I've been looking for a M1009 locally but they are always way overpriced and usually restored or modded for mud. I've looked at the government auction site but I'm on the east coast and everything I see is to far away to risk driving it back. I still look though....

Keep looking, if you're in FL, I see a bunch of 2.5's come up there, I couldn't justify bidding on them due to distance like you. I wasn't looking for M1009's, but I bet they were there too. Set yourself up for emails from govliquidation for upcoming auctions.

I'd kinda like to get an M1009 for backup transportation, ( my primary being a motorcycle.) Hard to beat the capability of the M1009 for the price.

No Chobham on a Chieftan, just thick old steel. Great Tank though, and could still give a modern tank a run.
