Stalin struggled on for several days, eventually dying at 21:50 on March 5th. His daughter said about the event: “The death agony was terrible. He literally choked to death as we watched.” (Conquest, Stalin: Breaker of Nations, p. 312)

Was Stalin Murdered?:
It is unclear whether Stalin would have been saved if medical help had arrived shortly after his stroke, partly because the autopsy report has never been found (although it is believed he suffered a brain haemorrhage which spread). This missing report, and the actions of Beria during Stalin’s fatal illness, have led some to raise the possibility that Stalin was deliberately killed by those afraid he was about to purge them (indeed, there is a report saying Beria claimed responsibility for the death). There is no concrete evidence for this theory, but enough plausibility for historians to mention it in their texts.

From what I've read I think even had they known Stalin was going to purge them, the inner group - Beria, Khrushchev, Malenkov - was too terrified to kill him.

Really?!? So ole Stalin was gonna flip the trigger huh?

There was a great show that used to be on the History channel about 3 or 4 years ago called Declassified.

One of the episodes was about Stalin's death.

They went through declassified documents from the CIA, KGB and some from Her Majesty's Secret Service. They also found some letters and diaries from some of the individuals that were at his palace that night.

Not many know just how close we came to WWIII. He was planning to launch the invasion of Europe and the America's, coordinated with selective nuke strikes.

Clearly, pure communism and pure capitalism don't work very well. We're still struggling to find the right balance between the two extremes. I think the democratic socialism as practiced in many northern European countries have found the right balance, that all developed countries should move towards.

Public ownership of the banking, energy, and health care sectors, allow the free market to reign over pretty much everything else, with a generous welfare safety net to catch anyone who falls through the cracks.

Why stop there? Why not the auto industry and food? oh, thats right, they already do.. When the government controls the banks, energy, food, insurance and healthcare, what else is left to the free market? It has never been free of government intervention so you have no basis in your comment. America did prosper for many years and has declined with each and every new government regulation. It will never return to its previous glory as long as people like you continue to degrade what made her great. Greed is the motivation of man. Your computer, clothes, guns, food, and every other thing in your life is a direct result of greed and the free market. Go sell stupid elsewhere or BETTER YET, go live in Greece, France, Germany or wherever else you think has a better system and then STFU. Americans are tired of people (like you) that are clueless, but have the uncanny arrogance to assume they are right. The French were once very big on Liberty and gave us a statue to symbolize our struggle for a free market system and a little laissez-faire. You should write down on paper your idea of how it should be, how it will work in every aspect of your life, who buys, sells, provides your with your job, you daily products. Then when your done, look at it objectively from every angle pro and con. Then, if you think you have a real plan, post it here. Utopian idealism=dangerous minds.
