Russia has to protect Iran. Even though they have their own oil, for them it would be to protect their oil supply.
If we had a real POTUS, he would pick up the phone and call Putin (why mess around?) and tell him that if he doesn't want Iran attacked to get his ass busy and get them under control.
And then he should ask Putin if he really wants to fuck with the US. That this may be a very bad idea.
