I don't know why only "Republican's fume"? Aren't we ALL interested in jobs AND energy independence, at least from those rat baxtards in Russia, Venezuela, and Saudi Arabia.
Unless the Dems are against getting this economy going again so they can blame it on the Repubs?

i agree,it is not just about jobs lost or per barrel surcharge that we would get..it is more to me about energy security..not to mention why the hell arent we drilling here..yet?

What's so wrong with shipping the oil the old-fashioned way (long-haul truckers)? What about all those trucker jobs that are going to be lost thanks to this pipeline?

And wouldn't that pipeline be a prime target for terrorists? Foreign or domestic?

Imagine the environmental damage if millions of gallons spewed out due to a terrorist attack... anywhere along the thousands of miles of unguarded pipe.
If we worried about everything a terrorist could do, we'd never build anything.

Mexico is an oil EXPORTING country, so no the oil does not go to Mexico.

The USA is an exporter of refined products, this would increase that export business.

The 20,000 jobs are only the pipeline itself. The increased capacity needs of the refineries it goes to would mean double or triple that number, then there are the manufacturers, wholesalers, vendors that benefit. Next the money paid to the workers gets spent in the economy in grocery stores, restaurants, etc. so it spreads.

Trucks are not for moving oil 2,000 or 3,000 miles, they burn too much fuel. Pipelines are more efficient than rail for moving large volumes of oil and safer both for people and the environment.

There has never been a terror attack on a USA oil pipeline. Of any transporting systems, rail, ship, truck, they have by far the best environmental and personnel safety record.

Oil is far easier to clean up on land then in the ocean. You basically dig up the soil and run it through an incinerator, then replace it and seed it. Pipelines have the fewest spills of any oil transport.

Pipelines are buried, the only above ground part to "bomb" is the pumping stations and those are manned, guarded and about 100 miles apart.

Pipelines have pressure drop leak sensors. If there is a leak the pumps shut down and close automated valves to isolate and limit the spill and lesson the fire if any. It would be almost impossible to have a "million gallon spill".

Lastly, there are already several pipelines right through the area in Nebraska the greenies complained about and there has never been any major problem.

There is no sane reason to block this pipeline except to pander to the greenies...
