Justice Stephen Breyer robbed at West Indies vacation home

WASHINGTON — A Supreme Court spokeswoman says Justice Stephen Breyer was robbed last week by a machete-wielding intruder at his vacation home in the West Indies.

Spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said Breyer, wife Joanna and guests were confronted by the robber around 9 p.m. EST Thursday in the home Breyer owns on the Caribbean island of Nevis. Arberg said the intruder took about $1,000 in cash and no one was hurt.

She said the robbery was reported to local authorities, but she did not know if an arrest.

Wonder if this will change his views at all on guns for self-defense?

How's that saying go? "A conservative is merely a liberal who has been mugged."

Actually, I'd just like to see more liberals and Democrats become pro-gun. That way, regardless of who's in power, our gun rights wouldn't be so threatened.

You better realize that when the marxist/socialist try to take over, if you don't agree to use force like they do, they will eliminate you just like they would a conservative/capatialist. You can't be a marxist in a marxist revolution and not do as you are told. If you think you can be armed but avoid using force against the other side....well, it will be your funeral.

Gee it warms my heart so to read that our "great" leaders own homes outside the United States!
I seriously doubt this would make him change his mind on firearms. I would just expect him to ask for legislation banning large sharp-edged weapons.

I fully intend on getting my gun rights restored in a couple years once I am eligible, one way or another. I won't stop until I do. I can and have voted in every election, I've been called to jury duty and will eagerly serve, the only other civil right I have still denied yet is my RKBA. But it too shall pass.

In fact, I'll already become eligible for a pardon next month, but my lawyer has said that it's a REAL long-shot, getting your whole record expunged and sealed, but its been known to happen if you have the right connections to the right people. I have some extended family who are close to one of our state senators, I might try pleading my case before him just for shits and giggles and see where it leads.

Special perks for thee and not for me? Is that the hallmark of a good socialist...one who believes all are equal and none deserve special favors from the elite?

No, it's not...but it is apropos of hypocrites.

Like it or not, that's how our system works. You don't get anything done without kissing ass and trying to earn favors from our elected officials.

Kind of like that Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi. Is it fair that all those prisoners (including convicted murderers) got pardoned by him at the last minute of his reign, simply because he liked the work they did for him at his mansion?

No, but that's how the system works. Don't like it? Get the law changed.

But so long as the law says that convicts can be pardoned after 3 years of topping out their sentence, obviously people were meant to be able to try.

And that system fits so well with your socialist values...how?

Again...you're a hypocrite...ready to use the system in a way the average grunt couldn't, all because of your connections. You're no better than a 1 percenter...after all, they're just making use of the system as it works...

    Courage of convictions...LAGC fails again.

Bullshit. Every single person convicted of a crime has the same opportunity for relief, not just me. How am I being a hypocrite for utilizing existing law? Because I happen to have family who knows someone in office? Any person can walk into their congresscritter's office and voice their requests/concerns. Like I said, I don't expect it to go anywhere, as full pardons are VERY rare. But I don't see the harm utilizing any leverage I can in trying.

Of course not...you're special...you're different from the rest of the 1 percenters who take advantage of their connections to get sweetheart deals. Yours just won't net you millions in kickbacks and taxpayer monies. What do you have to worry about from utilizing the system to get your needs met?

It has nothing to do with your socialist ideals of everyone equal...does it?

    There's no connection...

Well, its silly that people even have to jump through hoops to get their rights back and their records cleared in the first place. You know, in France they don't treat ex-cons that way, making them second-class citizens for the rest of their lives. Its far easier for an ex-con to reintegrate, becoming a productive member of society without his past constantly hovering over him. Once people complete their sentence, they have served their debt to society and should be given a clean slate. Nothing more should be required of them.

But thanks to our nanny-state, millions of people are disenfranchised in the name of "public safety." Kind of like the Sex Offender Registry. They put so many non-serious offenders on the list (like teenagers who boinked their underage teenage girlfriends) that it becomes meaningless. People can't tell the true child predators apart from the innocent teenage love-birds charged with statutory "rape," that everyone lives in a constant state of fear. The MSM keeps harping on the worst-of-the-worst offenders to pump up their sensationalist ratings, so everyone thinks crime is out of control, when in reality violent crime has been on the decline for over 15 years now.

Our system has many flaws, but so long as there are ways to work within the system for potential relief, there is still hope for justice yet.

So how many felons in France have had their firearm rights restored?

(playing the disingenuous bait and switch game with you here...just for shits and giggles...because you've gone so far afield to justify your hypocrisy)

Please explain how you using your personal connections to get your record expunged is any different from some 1 percenter using his personal connections to advantage his portfolio? The system is the system, right? You're both using it to your advantage, right?

So explain again how the 1 percenter is evil and you're just "taking advantage of the system" as it exists...

See if you can do so without appearing as the massive hypocrite you are.

Biggest difference is that I'm not using money to buy off special political favors. Its the money that corrupts.

It will just be one citizen (me) petitioning my representative for relief. Same right as any citizen has to make his voice heard by walking into his/her local official's office. Just because I might have someone put in a good word for me doesn't mean I'll get any special treatment. Just the hope that he might at least think a little while longer in considering my case, not that it will likely go anywhere.

After all, money talks, and bullshit walks.

If it's just Warren Buffet that benefits...it's just one person, right?

If it's just George Soros that benefits...it's just one person, right?

And by the by, if someone puts in a special word for you, and you benefit from it, you have gotten special treatment...special treatment the average joe with no one to put in a word for them didn't get...just like the 1 percenter whether he used money, connections (as you are using) or promises to get his special dispensation.

Or the Koch Brothers for that matter.

Truth is, if I was rich, I could have afforded a killer attorney and I would have never spent a day behind bars in the first place.

The legal system is for the rest of us who can't buy our way out. We have to make do with what limited means are available to us.

Glad to know that you admit using the system in whatever fashion you can is on a par with others using the system in the fashion they can. You're on the road to learning that life ain't fair.
