Went and scoped out a new to me Dove (and other game bird) site this morning.

Well the wife said she wanted to go out for a drive this morning. So I thought of this piece of conservation land on the Missouri that I had been wanting to look at so I took her out there. The place looks real promising (2600 acres). It's on the east side of Jamestown way out in the boonies. It's mostly river bottom and the DNR has planted hundreds of acres of forage for deer, turkeys & game birds.

    Tons of sunflower forage....

The roads down into this area aren't much, which is good as it'll discourage some from using the area.

I think the first Saturday of dove season the boy and I will give this spot a try and see how it goes. I noticed several doves today and my dog scared up a couple quail to boot.

It's a pretty cool location. I noticed several deer tracks in the muddy patches and when we were driving up through the hills out of the bottoms noticed two different flocks of turkeys foraging in meadows.

I like the area, I might have to call around and see what land goes for in the general vicinity.

    Nice property.
You mentioned few people may use the place because of the roads. Sometimes it pays to have numerous hunters in a dove field to keep the doves stirred up and off the ground. I try to find where the area where the doves enter and exit the field. But on a plot like you are showing and it's size, may be hard to find.

I was on a hunt several years ago and the field was 15 acres. We had 40 hunters in the field (all friends and range shooters) and I swear there was never 20 sec. that went by without someone shooting. Sounded like WWlll.

I'll say one thing, the doves there will either be full of sunflower seeds or lead. LOL
There's no problem an AK can't solve...........

The boys and I went down to this area a few weeks ago, and alas, much of it is too soggy to get into. Didn't look like the sunflower crop did much either. I think it all got washed out during the high water, which was up for most of the summer.

It might be dry enough for deer season, we'll see.
