    Help

I'm drawing a big blank trying to figure this out.
I am wanting to install a rail over a tapered barrel and need the rail to to be on the bore axis so I can use flip up AR type sights along with a red dot.

The rail will be on top of the receiver, which is larger than the muzzle end of the barrel (duh). What I need to know is how to figure the needed height of the block at the muzzle for the rail to mount.

Here's a rough drawing of what I'm wanting to do.

There's no problem an AK can't solve...........

(½*diameter of barrel at rear of rail)-(½*diameter of barrel at front of rail)=heigth difference

determine rear heigth and add result of above to that for front heigth

That is going to be rough and will be the center of the top of the curve that fits the barrel.

I was going to use a trig formula, but that is simpler and will get you there; at least close enough to dremel fit...

If you want and as I have time I could calc the entire taper of the cuts to an exact fit... I'm busy as hell at work but should have time over Thanksgiving...

    Lightbulb

For another idea do you own a level? Put barreled action in a padded vice and secure it, use the level to get the receiver level. Place rail on top of receiver and barrel, put level on top of rail. Add shim blocks until the rail is shown level by the level. Measure shim stack, the end.

    thats the easiest way .

for lining it up with the bore go buy a small undersized U-bolt and cover one end in that white plumbers tape so it's a snug fit using it as a centering guide and you'll be very close to dead on .
