I posted this in another thread but feel it's appropriate here:

The supremes settled this in Heller v DC.

The real issue is with "mainstreaming" the mentally ill.

    Columbine
    Westroads Mall shooting
    Colorado Springs Church
    Tucson
    Century Theater
    Virginia Tech
    Salt Lake City Mall
    Clackamas Mall
    Sandy Hook Elementary

Every one of these atrocities was perpetrated by mentally unstable males between the ages of 15 and 30. Some were already on meds. None were institutionalized. That's where our energies should be focused instead of on destroying the bill of rights.

Excellent post, and right on the money imo. In my area there was very large state mental hospital that closed in the early 80's, another that closed around year 2000, and about 7 years ago the only area hospital with a mental ward closed down.

In this area there is virtually no provision for someone with mental issues to get treatment. Health insurance plans wont cover it, and the state wont provide it, and it would be hard to find even if you could pay out of pocket. If someone is contemplating suicide, or thinks that their dog is talking to them, they get a ride to the ER, a bottle of pills, and if they are very lucky an appointment to talk to a therapist next month, and then sent on their way.

Most if not all were on psychotropic drugs. It's not coincidence but the media doesn't care, it's the guns.

It's a bit "damned if you do, damned if you don't"

I do think we (the people) need to start discussing some good solutions to what is becoming an out of control problem.

I watched a piece by a researcher that investigated 200 to 300 mass murders. He says per capita there are no more today than in the last two centuries. The main difference is the 24-7 news coverage...
