    5.45x39mm Question

Does all the surplus 5.45x39mm ammo feature the infamous "poison bullet"?

Are the commercial Wolf, Brown/Silver Bear loaded with it?

Where can I get either SP or HP for hunting?

To my knowledge only the surplus is so loaded.

Bluntforce, I believe Dan44 is correct. You'll only find this characteristic in surplus 5.45x39 ammunition.
    After today, it's all historical.

Russian is for sure, Bulgarian... IIRC has a heavier bullet.

The "Poison Bullet" properties come from an air pocket in the tip of the bullet. This causes the round to yaw when the tip becomes deformed.

Both Wolf and Barnaul commercial ammo do indeed have this air pocket, as does Golden Tiger. Although the air pocket in the latter is smaller. So, Ruskie FMJ can theoretically do more damage than a hollow point boat tail.

Yeah, gotta love that letter of the Geneva Convention but totally getting around the spirit thing like the British wooden/aluminum plug in front .303 bullet.

This should be legal to hunt with, considering the tissue damage dealt. It is likely far more deadly than 55 gr. .223, the only weight I use. It's (the .223) a short range shredder and shouldn't be asked to be more.

A five round AK-74 mag is probably as hard to find as a 5 round PSL mag though.

Too bad the Bulgarians also use the Cyrillic alphabet, you have to know more than if the letters look funny, it's Russian. They are different and I know the Russian alphabet but not the Bulgarian and I can't tell them apart yet...but I'll figure it out.

P.S. How do you bisect your bullets? Did you use a saw or some kind of wire cutters?

Those were cut with a bandsaw I am sure. And the bulgy stuff has a circle 10 on the case/cans... easy to spot.
