    Re: Saiga 7.62x39 ques.

I bought my first saiga 223 for $225, bought a saiga 308 a few months later for $325. Bought a saiga 12 converted for $650. Fast forward 2 years picked up another 223 and 308 prices were $325 and $450. $1200 is steep.

For $1200 it had better be professionally converted by a gun smith.

What's so special about this thing that it's $1200? Slash that price in half and I'd call that fair if it's unmodified. I sold mine for $175 five years ago. If only time machines existed...

what do you mean buy this post? I don't understand the converted phrase. Are not these built for this type of rifle to start with?

This is how they come in the country:

This is what gunsmiths convert them into:

Yep too high even if converted "professionally" still too damned high in my opinion. Converted the rifle should be worth $750 ish. The rest of it isn't worth another $450 bucks IMO. Then again if your friend isn't torn up by the price I doubt anything you tell him will disuade him from the purchase.

He can get a nice AR for that money right now. I would tell him to wait if he want's a Saiga -the prices will come down. If he's hot for a black rifle - steer him to the AR's.

    IMHO

If he wants to spend that much on an AK maybe go with this one: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...fle&groupid=11

Or even this one maybe: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...fle&groupid=11

At least both of those were higher end, more expensive AKs before the rush.

He really does want an AK. I must have told him a dozen times to come to this board and ask his questions. I have known the man for a few years and he is not a dummy. Guess he is just shy.

In today's panic pricing, maybe $800 but like others said, not too long ago the converted rifle was less, and in a few months to year unless the government goes on a full court press against our rights, the prices should come down a bit. Figure $70 for the ammo. I will not calculate ammo based on panic prices as we need to have patience, prices will come down, although not to what some of us used to pay.

Mags can be anything from worthless junk (USA Mags) to high quality, but still no more than $90 for three mags.

I try to convince people, that unless your life is on the line and you will die if you don't get something now, wait a few months to even a year for the price to become reasonable again, and in the mean time, save up your dollars for extra ammo to be purchased at that time.

Please keep us posted on what your co-worker does. It is always interesting to find out if people listen to reason, or their panic stricken heart.

Here is an $800 WASR. Even it would be a better deal. http://www.classicfirearms.com/long-...n-ak-7-62-x-39

Said he looked at a Bushmaster, about the same cost but wanted the Saiga. A new addict...... now if I can get him on the board!

I really hope it was an SGL or some other high quality Saiga conversion for that kind of money.

Sorry to be down on your buds purchase.

I'm glad he's happy with it, and I hope it brings him and his family years of fun and security.
