recommended scope option for 8mm mauser?

I still have a brick plus of old turkish surplus. I would like to be able to precision shoot it. What would be the best scope option. I do have have a tricked out mauser with a so called free floating barrel and a piccitinny mount surface.

The optics would probably need to have a lot of 1/2 or 1/4 moa click movement as I hear there is a lot of bullet drop after 300M.

Really depends on what kind of shooting you want to do. I have and recommend one of these: http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10x42-Tactic...cope-P499.aspx

However... how accurate is the gun and ammo in the first place? It may be a time to just check and see what's on sale.

Depends on what year your ammo is dated. Some years are better than others. Depends on if your rifle likes Turk ammo. How much scope can you afford? Military surplus ammo is not the greatest for precision shooting. Turk ammo shoots better in Turk rifles....chris3

Turk ammo isn't Precision, surplus 8 mm rifles aren't precision. IMO even a 4x scope is going to be a vast improvement over the stock Iron sights. Now if your eyesight is bad I can see the reason to scope one, but don't expect better than 2 MOA or you're going to be vastly disappointed.

Oh and I moved your post as General Discussion is for all things not firearm related and this topic is.

OK on the move. I am just looking to be able to hit 10 plates out to say 400 meters. I was never looking for a tack driver.

Let us know what you decide and how it works out for you. I've thought about taking one of my old Mosin Nagants and having some kind of a heavy 7.62x54r machine gun barrel fitted to the receiver. Maybe even adding a match type trigger and some action work to make a test platform just to see how much accuracy some of my surplus ammo has. Probably not very practical from a cost standpoint but for someone with the equipment and skill it might not cost too much and might offer some interesting data.
