    Defeating FLIR?

Is there a way to defeat FLIR imaging?

I've seen those emergency blankets for sale that claim to keep in 98% of your body heat (the ones that are thin, silvery, metallic looking that sell for about $5 each) and was wondering how well they would defeat a FLIR device if you were to wrap up in one, completely?

If they don't work, is that anything out there that might?

Something wrapped around your body will take up your body heat. Some materials faster than others. An emergency blanket across an open window will block heat signatures from inside, but so will glass from a regular window.

    Here. YMMV

So in short, if you wear it, it wont do shit.

I spent some time as OPFOR in the Army, and a simple poncho strung up between two trees in our hide position would suffice to keep Bradley and Abrams thermals from detecting us, of course then the poncho was visible to the naked eye if they got close enough.

Pretty much what your first poster came up with. It will block your signature if you can make a room out of it ... tin foil room so to speak. If it is touching you your body heat will transmit through it and you WILL show up. Only way to not show up is to be the same temp as your surroundings, hard to do out doors.

only thing is. Most stuff with newer FliR equipped will spot you well before you can get close enough for a shot.

I thought you were hoping the chopper would only take 1 bullet.

Keep this in mind... Even the Color thermal/Flir I used back in 2000. ANYTHING you touched you made a path to yourself, footsteps, just brushing into things will give you away.

    Look up "Ghost" Camouflauge
When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?"
