    Overlooked Food Source for SHTF

I don't remember seeing anything about this here, so I'm going to post this.

I just took a class on animal behavior (Ethology) and we had a field trip where we went out capturing birds and banding them. We didn't find any birds that we had licenses to band, but we did catch quite a few non-target birds, which we looked at, then released.

We used 3 mist nets to capture them and caught something in all three in a short amount of time.

Since all birds are edible, even small songbirds, most people don't think about eating them. True, they aren't very big, but they are edible and, using mist nets, easy to catch. I'm sure it would take quite a few to make a meal, but it can be done.

Mist nets are almost invisible, silent, and easy to transport and set up. In a place where shooting might draw unwanted attention, this could be the perfect solution for gathering food unnoticed.

    Just something to consider....

Hummm... hadn't thought of netting small birds. On eating them, yeah but only the breast for the most part. Doves as an example, never did anything but rip the breast off the bird and toss the rest.

in my yard to catch them would be easy but tree rat would be much easier. all you have to do is set out bird feed and you would have a mess of them in no time. they like the damn bird feed more than the birds do i believe. lol
