    New Range/Plinking Tank

I picked up a Ruger P85 recently from a buddy of mine. It came with 4-15 rd. mags, factory box, lock, and manual. $225 for all.
I have a P89 stainless and thought I'd start getting a few more P Series Rugers. The next will be a P95.
Ok, yes they are ugly, bulky, and heavy, but they function flawlessly and are accurate. I've owned sub-compacts that are striker fired, and hate them. Seems a hammer gun works best for me as far as accuracy is concerned.

I bought a slide holster for it, but when I received it, there was no leather barrier between the rear of the gun and my skin. I ordered a holster kit( less the Kydex) that had the barrier. I transferred the Kydex to the new leather and BAM, perfect for summer/winter carry. The most comfortable holster I own, even given the weight of the Ruger.

All and all, I really like these P series pistols.

I have had experience with the P-95 and never had a problem. Super reliable with shitty ammo and accurate enough for a combat handgun. Plus it works good as a bludgeon.

And you can't help but get a kick out the notice in the manual that says any factory 9mm ammo will feed and fire.

Thanks. I hate Glocks plus they are as ugly as the Ruger.

    To each his own.

True. The P85 & 89 make better bludgeoning tools.
They are rated for +P+ ammo.

always remember slam it does not take a pretty gun to shoot a M'FER coming through your front door trying to cause you harm. only one that fires the round you aim at the S.O.B

You got a great deal on that, especially with four mags. Now find a couple of Mec-Gar 20-rounders for it to keep in your vehicle and at home to slow down walker hordes.

I'm looking for Mec-Gar mags, but they are sold out.
    Gunbroker ones are like gold.
    I ordered a Pro-Mag 32 rd'er today.
I'll see just how bad they are....LOL

when you go for the p-95 try for one of the pre-rail models. Between the 2 I had (one from '95 and one of the railed guns) the older was loads better, much better trigger, and the new model would always fling the first shot to a point of impact way off from the rest of the group.

I had a pre-rail a few years ago. The one I'm looking to get is a pre also.

What a deal, a handgun and you can drive tent stakes with it or tenderize a tough stake banging on it with the butt.

So then, Ruger is a multi-purpose tool. Good survival gun.

    44MAG has Ruger Mec-Gars. I recommend the flush-fit 17-rounders and the extended 20-rounders. $35 for 17 and $30 for 20.

The target below shows hits by a Taurus PT111 G2 (circled) @ 7 yds. Never did better than this. Sold the striker fired sub-compact 9mm and bought the Ruger survivor tool....LOL

P85 hits @ 20 yds. are above the Taurus hits. (uncircled) First mag through the Ruger after purchasing it. Not bad for shooting it for the first time.
