    Great Day at the Range!

Today was an awesome day! I spent several hours at a private range, invited by a friend who is into the old C&R stuff. I got to shoot some things for the first time and even some guns I've never heard of. It was really fantastic! In the mix were my Stag/Del Ton AR15, and my Yugo M70, M1 Garand, SMLE and FN FAL both in .308, M1 Carbine, Steyr Hahn, couple of Tokarevs, Colt 1903, Dreissen(?)and a Mauser broom handle. As a bonus we introduced a young shooter to the sport, safety rules, shooting basics, etc. He is only slightly more excited than I am. A few pics...

Good deal! A range trip is something I need to be making myself.

I would love to shoot a broomhandle. I have always been attracted to that gun. How did you like it.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

It was pretty cool. It was my first time shooting 7.62x25 today. The gun is chambered in 7.63x25 but he didn't have any and said "no worries" so off I went. The sights were pretty tough to acclimate to with my eyes. It ran good and seemed accurate. Trigger was stiff, estimate at over 10 lbs. He does not have the stock (or so he says *wink*).

Nice collection of weapons, great photos. I have to say I always have been curious about what the broom handles shoot like.

    The denial is proof!!!!

Does look like a great time...
We found out what "dealing" with progressive lefties is all about. Our side gives up something, they give up nothing and the progressives come back in a month or a year and want us to give up more... rinse and repeat...

It was also my first time shooting an M1 carbine. What a fun little plinker! I think I need one. I presume the .30 cal is unavailable like everything else?

The M1 Carbine is a very light recoiling weapon, fun to shoot yes. Ammo has always been expensive, use to be $10 bucks for 50 rounds now it is closer to $30 per box if you can find it. The round is in the power range of a .357 magnum. G.I. Carbines are some of the most over priced weapons on the planet IMO. You can get the M1 Garand for hundreds less most of the time.

I got an M1 Carbine a few years ago from CMP, one of the Bavarian ones. It is a blast to shoot. I haven't looked for ammo for it in a while as I happened to stock up just before the big scare. It was a little expensive, but not too bad.

There was (is?) a member here who was into them. He had quite a nice collection as I recall. I can't quite pull his name out of the cobwebs. He posted occasionally on Glock Talk too. I did a quick check at CMP Sales. They are only doing these via auction and are going well over $1,000. Damn.

    Sorry, I don't think it'll happen.

That rifle was my first center-fire, bought @ a local gun shop when I was in HS (1972) for $70 including tax. It's all matching parts too, manufactured in the town I grew up in, Dayton OH. That plant cranked out around 4 million of them 1942-44.

My Inland would be the last gun in my collection I'd ever part with.
