    The nanotubes are buzzwords, but the "non Newtonian" backing makes a lot of sense. Soft and flexible until impacted, but the harder you hit it, the harder it gets.

    They also appear to be listening to the forums, as they are shipping their ballistic steel plates with a LineX coating instead of just paint. (I have one of their steel plates myself. Is it as good as they say? I haven't been shot to find out!)
