Went to the National Firearms Museum last week. Never thought that I would say there were too many guns, but wow, I think there were too many guns.
Actually the museum, in Fairfax, VA, is pretty cool. Lots of one of a kind guns, old guns, a pretty interesting Hollywood gun exhibit, but it was hard to find information on them. Instead of putting the history and specifics of each gun with the gun, there is a number. Sometimes the number corresponds to a placard right there. Most times, though, the number corresponds to a computer index that has the information. The computer interface was not very friendly though so finding the weapon you wanted information on was not easy.
Some of the cooler exhibits were the only Pilgrim musket, thought to have come across on the Mayflower, an exhibit of Gatling guns, some of the machine guns carried by the Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders, and the Hollywood exhibit. The Hollywood exhibit was interesting by the number of plastic guns used in the movies. For example, in Dirty Harry, some scenes apparently had Clint Eastwood carrying a cheap plastic revolver with no moving parts vice the real S&W. I didn't notice a difference in the movie, but up close it was definitely fake.
I would post pictures but you are not allowed to take pictures inside the museum. There is not entrance fee so if you are in the area I would recommend that you stop by.
