They're supposed to look like this:

(I like a "pure" AR-15. Any aftermarket stuff is a no-go for me).

Magpul handguards are pretty basic. Nothing fancy about them, and they're pretty common on factory guns these days. Just like a normal handguard except you can easily add a rail segment for your light or whatever.

Uh, that's not technically WRONG. It's just your preference. Unless you're intentionally building a specific classic Carbine model, there is no RULE that you have to use the old style. I take it you'd say that RIS rails are wrong too lol

I never said it was a "rule". I said *I* prefer my AR-15 to look plain stock.

As far as saying other styles were "wrong", I guess it should have had a smiley after it..... obviously they're not "wrong".

All of my AR's are either "real" Colt 6520 carbines or else Bushmaster clones (CAR style with the older non-M4 type handguards).

My son's AR is a 20 inch "Vietnam clone" (triangle handguards, SP1 upper, thin "government" profile barrel, etc...).

(yeah I know the lower is wrong...)

i prefer the triangular handguards of the old school ar's myself, but barring them, the next best handguard out there is the magpul moe. imo, its "the new triangular handguard" those round ones suck. as do any type of railed monstrosity.

Yep, you're right. The lower IS wrong if you want a historically correct match with that upper. Even the XM16-E1 had only the ridge for the detent pin and not the fence around the mag release button. I have NEVER found those lower receivers, even when I was looking for them in the 1980s. All i could find were the pure flat side or the A1 style (and then later the A2 style). EXCELLENT LOOKING GUN THOUGH!!!!

    Nice.

I love the shorty triangle handguards.

I think Nodak Spud had a slab side lower for that...

Yup. They got it! Here's all their AR lowers:

Nice. It looked like they were permanently out-of-stock following the Sandy Hook gun-control crusade of summer 2013.
