    Remington butt pad is melting

Has anyone else had this happen? Something is going on with my 700's butt pad on a molecular level that is causing it to remain sticky all the time. It also seems to be getting worse over time. It catches little twigs, cat hair, sand etc. As well as stick to your shirt when shouldered. Its a real pain in the ass.

Nope never had that happen. It probably has been attacked by an oil or gun solvent. You need to replace it as it won't self correct.

Clean the buttpad with lots of rubbing alcohol. That should remove the part of the rubber that is breaking down and it won't be sticky afterwards.

Damns that ranks up there with Ferds purple shotgun on the urine stained mattress. I would use gloves and antibacterial soap while removing it and call the EPA to come pick it up for proper disposal as bio hazardous waste.

Your cat needs to be shaved.

Definitely solvent or gun oil. Had the same thing happen to the rubberized button on a flashlight I kept in my gun cleaning kit.

I had that happen to the steering wheel of an old Taurus. You are fucked. Remove and replace.

Yes it is original. I "googled" it and found others have had the same issue. Apparently a bad batch of rubber during that production timeframe. I emailed remington. See what comes out of it.

Got a response from Remington customer service. They are sending me a new pad for free.
