    Question All things being equal

If you had one of each in like new condition with quality ammo (.308 / 7.62x51) which do you think would be the most accurate?

    HK 91/G3
    Springfield M1A/M14
    FN FAL
    AR10
    VEPR

I have no scientific basis to support it but I would bet the M1A would lead the pack.

Well the AR-10 probably has the most inherent accuracy. It would be a tossup between it and the m1a, and depend on the individual rifles more than anything else.

I agree with RAXAR that it would be a toss up between the AR and the M1A.

Easiest and most accurate probably would be an AR10 type rifle. I say that because the AR15's are so easy to get to 1 MOA or better accuracy. Every one of the weapons you list are not even close to being 1 MOA weapons without paying for some serious gun smithing upgrades. The M1A's of course come in National Match versions but they are very heavy and very expensive.

The FAL in my opinion is more like a 3 MOA weapon with some trending down to 2 MOA or near it. They suffer from always bending the bullet out of alignment with the axis of the case when they chamber the round.

A veper is just a big AK so expect similar results. The HK rifles are not too inaccurate but IMO too many things stuck to the barrel to be super accurate.

    AR-10
If I had the $$ I'd own a SASS model.

Having spent $$$$$$$$$$ on an M1A loaded national match blah blah blah..

I could have built an AR-10 with nice glass and still came out a few hundred $$$ ahead.

I have an armalite AR10T, M1A loaded model, and a VEPR

The AR10T will shoot just under 1" at 100yds with federal gold medal match 168 grn, The M1A just a touch over 1'' and i won't waste that ammo through the VEPR. don't know about the HK or FN, never owned either.

Thanks for the replies. It would seem that the AR-10 is considered the most accurate. I presume that's due to some inherent accuracy within the design itself. Bearing that in mind, given the same rifles which would you expect to find as the most reliable?

I was wrong on my choice of most accurate when I chose the M1A. For most reliable I'll take the VEPR but since the 7.62x51 cartridge isn't what the AK action was designed around I could be wrong.

    M1A for reliability.

BUT .... if you handload you have to use NO.34 primers VS the AR10 where you can toss whatever in it.

AR-10. If you can afford the LM&T it will be accurate out of the box. It's used by British Royal Marine snipers. But any AR platform is fairly easy to accurize.
