    Unless I missed something, or misread it, I see this as an improvement over the existing law. The way I see it, if a convicted felon has served his/her time and has been legally released from prison, they should have most of their rights restored to them, along with the right to defend oneself, as does anyone who is not a felon.

    yes you have the right to defend yourself and you will be charged with an firearm violation. felons are not allowed to have firearms. this just means that you can use the stand your ground laws as a defense. you will still go back for the firearm but maybe not for something worse.
