    My Wheelies

Didn't know where to post this thread, so............here's the legend for the pics below.

    Left column, top to bottom:

Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan .454 Casull
    Ruger Blackhawk .357
    Smith 629 .44 Mag
    Smith 66 .357 Mag

    Middle column:

Ruger Vaquero .44 Mag (original large frame model)
Charter Arms .44 Spl Bulldog (1970's vintage)
    Taurus .357
    Ruger Speed Six .38 Spl

    Right column:

    Taurus .38 snubby
    Charter Arms .38 Undercover
RG .22 LR Double Action Alamo western model
Freedom Arms .22 LR mini revolver
    Rohm Double Action .22 LR

(I forgot about the 3 BP replica revolvers. It was too late for the pics by the time I remembered them)

Looks like any of them would work fine for shootin' motherfuckers with. I'm partial to the S&W 629 ("Me... and Smith... and Wesson"), but they're all good.

I need a wheel gun but want a .357 Mag and prefer a Smith and Wesson. Prices have crept up.

Nice collection you got there. How do you like that mini revolver? I saw a .22 mag that a guy had that folded into the handle. Looked kinda handy.

Yeah, prices are getting up there lately. It seemed like they were dropping for a while about the time the CCW rush hit a few years back, but I guess people figured out that smaller isn't always better. The real cannon in the bunch is that one at the upper left. Very packable and LOTS of power. Probably would go through at least a couple of BG's if you could get them to line up nice and conveniently.

Those .22 LR mini's are cute but really not much more than a novelty unless you have nothing else but your fist to point at an assailant. The magnums like you describe could be effective but I'd still want more power and more rounds J.I.C.

Thanks for the compliment on the group.

A man after my own heart. I love revolvers and prefer them to autos.

    Very nice collection and selection.

I love the trigger on the 629 and the short underlug. A nice gun for hunting white tail deer in the thick.

    Beautiful.

I really want a highway patrol model S&W. That's the wheelie I'm looking at. I love those!

I had a chance to buy one of those with a slighly bulged barrel (about an inch into the rifling from the breech) for 35 bucks. That was in 1973 and before I knew a lot about problems like that. It would likely have performed OK for my use and it was a beefy piece to boot.

Thanks for the compliment, by the way.

Richard Simmons has some really nice examples of the model 28.

It was weird. I was never really into old Smith's and one day a 28 caught my eye at a gunshow. It was the most awesome hunk of steel I ever picked up in my life. I will have one.

Oh yes. I will have it.

My mom's got a model 28, no dashes, with a 6" barrel she inherited from her mother who bought it off an old sheepherder back in the late '50's or early '60s for $5. Old dude kept it as his "boot gun".

The only work we had to have done to it was get the timing fixed. Other than that it shoots great.
How do you compromise with someone when their idea of compromise is to give them what THEY want?

A Model 28 is nothing more than a less shiny Model 27.
The bluing on the 27 is a highly polished blue finish, compared to the matte finish on the 28.
TH, TT, TS were available on the 27, but not on the 28.
Everything else is basically the same.
