so I decided to hit the range today to some semi-serious benchrest work. First up was my marlin Xl-7 in 30 06, wanted to try out some 180 grn reloads as everyone says they shoot very well in the marlins, also had 5 rounds loaded with 165 grn bullets as I primed 50 cases and only had 45 180 grainers. the results were surpring, as the 180 grners did really crappy, 4 + inches off the bipod and 1 1/2"-2 1/2" off the rest, did manage one group that came in just under 1" (all 3 shot groups) the 165 grain stuff gave me a 5 round group just a hair over an inch. also tried some 146 grain wadcutters in my taurus 85, which I got really good results with in my dads 85, but they shot like crap as well. I can't wait for fall to come around, this waiting 10-15 minutes between groups gets pretty boring.
