Just trying to open this page.

Here is a La Caruna M48 off shoot of the Mauser that was the called the FR8. They were used in N. Africa in the 60's along side the CETME. The rifles came in around '82 with bayonets slings and cleaning kits for $110 ea. I bought three unfired ones.

These guys had a tough tour.

    Spain and NATO

In the mid 60's and early 70's Spain had to do a major upgrade to it's military. The CEMET in 7.62X51 was the front line rifle but for the many utility troops it was to much rifle for the job of support and policing that had to be done. Thousands of M43 8mm rifles were rebarrled with CETME barrels to arm the new companies called up as the Legion was deployed to Africa and regular Spanish Army units took over security in parts of Europe. Arming them all put a large burden on Spain. I think the increase was close to %20 percent in personnel alone plus equipment and that was a lot of money. Fernando was in and air bourn unit in North Africa.
