A nice soft and supple leather. High quality stitching. Pistol is soaked in cosmo. Reminds me of the M1 rifles and M3A3 and MP40 sub guns we used to unpack for the CIDF's at MACV/SOG in the 60's. It will take a detail pull down before I know more.

Nice Tok. I like those skinny grips and the standard half-cock safety. The way the Yugo's fixed their side safety looks sweet though. My Norinco's in 9MM feel clunky with the "americanized' plastic grips and that safety is all but worthless.

Wow, where did you find one that not only came with a holster but a spare mag as well?? It seems almost impossible to find the mags last time I looked.

I got mine from SOG several months ago and it came with two mags.

What we need is somebody selling the mags separately - and not for an arm or a leg...

    ;)

Someone is making US made magazines but they have been a 50/50 crap shoot with lots of hand fitting.

I bought some last Sunday at Gander Mountain...

Below are pictures of one of two that I bought at Gander Mountain last Sunday (The second one will be a Christmas present for my son - I got an extra $10 off the $199.99 price on each one too because I got a 5% off on firearms postcard from them in the mail good through Oct! (Note: I touched out the serial # with Photoshop.)

These are a great deal for $199.99 ea.($189.99 ea, for me!), since they don't charge a transfer fee and the form 4473 isn't that hard to fill out (besides you trade the shipping fee from mail order vendors for the state sales tax - If you live in a state that has one as I do and no extra charge for hand - select). I think I came out ahead too because they included 2 brand-new condition Yugo 9 round magazines on each one, a brand new original Yugo holster, a new condition cleaning rod, a treated gun sock, a lock (which I don't use), a year warranty, a free cleaning (never used that either on the many guns I bought there) and I don't think these pistols were ever issued (they are THAT GOOD!).

They also let me hand select from among the four they had, let me field strip it to check it out, and even let me swap for the dark holster because I already had a light tan one from a purchase I made of a Yugo M57 that I bought in Jan, 2010 at a local gun show.

I paid $268 for that one and THAT was only because he was going to send it back to his vendor because it wouldn't fire or rack the slide properly. I determined that I could fix it myself because all that was wrong was a bent-up magazine safety that I took out and threw away because it was slightly cracked and it is not needed anyway! If the gun were not as I described, he would have charged me $375 plus tax for it. (The other one he had worked all OK, but the condition was poor and he wanted $375 for that one!)

In cleaning these guns I have found no problems what so ever with any parts and all the parts show no wear! I have not had a chance to fire it yet since we had a windstorm all week since I bought them

I have checked around the prices online and you won't find a better deal anywhere else!

When I originally purchased the two M57s I mentioned in post #11 (above), one of the 4 Yugo M57s I inspected that they had in stock was the best looking of the bunch and I was going to buy it, but it would fire even without a magazine in it (it's supposed to lock the trigger and make it NOT fire without a mag "magazine safety").

So they took it out of their stock to be sold and marked it to be returned. (This pistol was every bit as beautiful as the one pictured in post #11 and came with an even nicer dark holster, 2 new 9 round mags in a sealed, cosmoline filled bag, cleaning rod and the Gander gun sock.)

Well, I had purchased my very first M57 from a dealer at a gun show (not Gander) in Jan 2010, and only got the dealer down from $375 to an OTD price of $268 because it had a defective mag safety, which, after purchasing it I simply took it off because it was all bent up and cracked and had no chance of fixing it.

So, over a week after buying my first 2 Gander M57s (post #11, above), I got to thinking that (and this was, I thought, a long shot) maybe if they didn't send it back yet I would offer to purchase it as a "parts gun" if they would give me a good discount.

Well, to attempt to make this long story as short as possible - They still had it and didn't know what they would do with it yet - Their on-site gun smith said he couldn't buy any parts for these, and there was no-one to "send it back" to. So they were very interested in my offer!

I was prepared to offer $150 for it, but before I was asked, they offered it to me for $100 off the $199.99 price (with no warranty, however).

I already had a "Gander Gift Card" for a Colt M4 rifle I had bought a few months ago that I got along with a Gander price match against Cabela's that was originally given to me that was worth $150 and still had $84.13 left on it after I had used it for a few other things.

So my final out-the-door price (because I used up my gift card for the rest) on my Gander charge, was $23.23 (got me 2% in Gander points on that too)!

I got it home and, again, all that was wrong was a bent (spring steel) mag safety and this time there were no cracks (whew!), so I spent about a half hour carefully reshaping it by using a dial caliper on my good M57's safety spring to get this one to the exact proper positioning again. And now it works perfectly well!

Now, I understand that the going rate for real Yugo 9 round M57 mags, according to many places on the internet seems to be about $65 each (used), and here I got 2 new mags still in cosmo for $100 (or $23.23 if you factor in my free gift card), and a free excellent condition 7.62x25 M57 Yugo Tokarev, New pristine holster, new cleaning rod, and a gun sock, all thrown in free (if you want to look at it that way)!

All it took was for me to spend a half hour extra straightening the spring during initial cleaning.

After cleaning it up, I decided that it looks absolutely identical and as pristine as the outfit I have pictured in post #11, ( In fact, the serial number of this one is only 5 greater than the one pictured!) so I don't feel I need to do a new picture of it here (The holster is also the same color, but it is even in better condition - absolutely unissued and pristine in fact!).

When I returned from shooting it at the range the first shot (at 7 yards) was a bullseye, and almost all were in the black or the bullseye! (There were just 3 flyers out of 64 total shots that were really my fault and not the gun's). All functioning of the piece was perfect!

I think this gun is a keeper - a "parts gun" it will NOT be!

Just wanted to mention that I found out that you can very easily make Yugo mags from Cz52 mags. The Cz52 is a heal-catch type mag and has no catch for the mag release - so you just need to cut one in the right spot and viola' you got a Yugo 57 mag. Some to need a little tapping with a brass hammer to reduce the front to back width as they tend to be a tad longer front to back than the M57 mags.

I just got two Cz52 mags from keep shooting - and will be doing the mod probably tomorrow.

Just ordered one of these Yugo's and it should be ready for pickup Monday. How are your triggers and safeties? I've read some complaints about them being very stiff, but the dates on those posts are 3 to 5 years old. I spoke with one of the guys at J&G and he said they check them all out for function. Could the trigger stiffness be due to the mag safety like you see on High Powers? I removed the one on mine (FEG clone) and the trigger's a world better now.

The trigger isn't match quality but it's not what I would call heavy either. The safety is positive and beats the hell out of the rough cobble that you get on the others.

    Red face ;) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice picture gents. I just picked up a second M57 because it wouldn't load. The magazines are so filled with cosmoline grease they would not feed. One is new and is just full of the jelly the other is full also but it's used and the stuff has dried to a hard wax holding the spring. so it wouldn not feed. As usual the fireing pin and spring are buttered in grease causing light or no primer hits. The owner took off th grips and could not get them back on well so some careful fitting just like the first one. Holster two magazines and tool. I'm going to make some 7.62X25 cases in the morning from rifle brass.
