    I cringe at the taxes I'd owe if I win it. Estimated value of $25K that's what the IRS is going to be wanting to tax.

    This isn't Europe there isn't a VAT on this thing, nor does it have to be registered.......taxes....?

    I wonder if because of the value they have to report the winner to the IRS. I don't think the FFL would have to report the value of the rifle during the transfer, right?

    Any prizes we win are taxable at retail value. Contestants that go on game shows and win a car as an example are liable for the dollar value of the car as INCOME. You win a $1,000 buck rifle, not too bad a deal, win a $25,000 rifle, you owe tax on $25k worth of income.

    For ~4K in taxes, you could build a real nice "sniper rifle" in .308 caliber.
