    $19 and charities.

I've noticed lately that several charities that run their ads on tv are all asking for only $19 a month to work miracles.

Is there some magical, mythical reason they all target $19 a month?

I would expect it is based on some study that shows people are more likely to give $19 a month instead of $20 a month. Sort of like the way stores will price something for $XX.99 instead of rounding up to the next higher dollar amount. If they asked for $20/month the amount of their donations would drop off as compared to asking for a dollar less as more people will donate the $19 than $20.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

Yeah, I know the "9" some how makes people think somethin is cheap...such as $19 seems cheaper than$18.
It just makes it look like they're all run by the same megacharity outfit.

I don't think that is true, but they are all concerned with getting the most money for their cause as they can. Because of this they will all follow actions that have proven successful. Think about their ads, children, small animals or animals that have been abused, women beating cancer, all things you can feel sorry for. Very seldom are there men, and then they are usually crying and preceded and followed by women or children. All are time honored ways of getting money for the charity. I don't begrudge them this. I just remember it when looking for places to give charity to so I don't use the ads to determine where I give. I use them as a start for my investigating of them to determine where I should give.
