hahahahaha "Fluff" pieces are sent out on the wire with a 'news story' already attached. Media share a pool of various 'news' but fluff stuff or 'human interest' stories, save for things that are purely local or breaking, are always taken from an attached script. Why write a new script when it's already attached to the released story? Historically, AP and Reuters were news distribution services, where one original story was taken and 'shared' with all the world's news services so that they didn't have to research and come up with anything themselves. Not necessarily lazy, but it's definitely more efficient. The problem is when AP and Reuters show a total liberal bias (which they do). That liberal bias propagates to the masses. But the 'shared' news story itself is not a bad thing.
Well, the point is that talking heads are closer to actors than they are journalists. But they still try to call it journalism.

Most talking heads don't even think about what they say, they just read what they are told to read.
My favorite case in point is a local TV station that loves to report: "the truck lost control on a curve" or "the Mustang lost control and veered into oncoming traffic". Until we have full autonomous vehicle that can truly lose control, it is the driver that loses it, not the vehicle which never had control in the first place.
Yes, to be a "news reporter" you don't need to be able to think, just read what you are told to read and otherwise shut up.

AP, UPI etc all have standard manuals for scripting news stories, including word usage and proper terminology to use. These manuals are carefully protected and are not available to the general public.

But every once in a while something comes out that reminds us it is there. For example the change in terminology from illegal aliens to illegal immigrants to undocumented aliens so that people are not reminded that these people are breaking our laws when they come here without going through Immigration. I think a new one is allowing as many quotes to be aired about Trump calling him a liar, racist, bigot, or woman hater while not suppressing any of the same statements and actual investigations against Clinton.
