I've never had to pay for a background check or NICS in either DE or MD. They might have been included in the price of the gun, but it was never mentioned when I bought the gun.

There has never been any charge to me when I have bought a new or used gun from an FFL business. The ONLY time I ever had to pay a fee was for the "interstate transfer" of a rifle I bought last year.

it's usually $10. tennessee uses tbi for instant background checks. i saw a sign in a gun store last week, stating it was $60 if the buyer failed. i didn't ask but it may have been to discourage those that can't pass, to not try. of course, they do lose time and effort as well as a sale, each time someone fails.
