Thanks for the heads up on this. I had to be out when it first showed, but I will make sure to catch it as the local PBS reruns them about a dozen times during the week.

It's on PBS, Public Broadcasting. I've never watched it before but for some reason last night I was channel surfing and it caught my eye. Not a huge PBS fan but they do have some neat shows once in a while.

PBS has some really good shows. I love British tv and they play a lot of it plus they realize there is a market
if they just tone down the political crap. I have always liked NOVA I just pick and choose which ones I watch.
But for someone, like me, who really dislikes commercials it is a decent alternative to all these so called premium
    channels.

Got to watch it this morning. Verified in my mind that The War to End All Wars was an unbelievable waste of life. Today's news media would have a cow over the number of soldiers killed per minute.

As to the show, amazing leadership, amazing soldiers to think tunnel warfare through and then carry it out.

I had the exactly same thoughts. They were fighting hi-tech weapons and using tactics that had not had a chance to catch up.
I cannot imagine the shear terror that those men would have had to endure. Automatic weapons, gas, tanks,
continuous artillery bombardments of a scale that had never before been seen by soldiers or commanders.
    My God...

This would also be an accurate description of the US Civil War, which was essentially a horrifying prelude to WW1 which the Europeans would ignore, assuming they were more civilized than their North American counterparts and could consciously avoid the horrors of war while fulfilling their war aims through quick and decisive victories made possible by modern industrialization.

I can agree somewhat. And I can also say it was learned that targeting civilians worked.
