    Blizzard Survivors?

Those of us on the eastern side of the US, who are having a white event outside, how are you all making out?

So far, I've got about 5" of snow and it's still coming down pretty heavily right now. We were predicted to get between 1" and 3" of snow before it turned to rain, then back to snow. North of me was supposed to get 6" to 8" and farther north, from DC on up was predicted to get 12" to 24".

So far, the weatherman was a little low on the snowfall amounts. It's supposed to snow into tomorrow morning, slowly turn to rain, then to sleet, then back to snow (1"-3" at the end). Couple this with nighttime temps in the mid-20's and we might get an ice storm before it's over.

I've got everything I need to ride this one out, so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy it.

How are you all making out? If you're north or northwest of me, you should be getting dumped on. Hope everybody's okay.

It's going to be mid 70s tomorrow and sunny, heading out to the range in my shorts and t-shirt to do a little shooting tomorrow............neener, neener

. My dad retired from the army in 1968 at Ft Eustice, VA. We lived in a town called Denbigh. In 1966 they had a storm like the one that's happening now the weekend before the end of christmas break and school was closed for another two weeks while they tried to get snow plows down from Richmond. Had a snow drift up to the eave of our roof in the front yard, lots a fun for an arizona boy.
There's a part of me that would like to experience a snow storm like that again, might be kind of fun

It's turned to sleet now. Supposed to turn to rain, then when the temps drop again, snow... So, we will have a sheet of ice below the snow when this thing winds down.

We got lucky in this area (St. Louis) as we only got 3-4". Just about 80 miles south of here, areas of southern Illinois reported 8-10". The problem was that for most of this week, lows have been 9 or less with highs in the upper teens. My fireplace was running from Sunday morning until last night!

We have snow. And absolute silence outside!!! It is so quiet you can hear it!!

    That actually sounds kinda cool.

    I hope everyone is safe.

We don't get shit in California. It would be cool if it ever snowed here.

Temp rose to 39* and much of the snow melted. We got about 6 inches before it turned to rain. It's raining now and is supposed to rain throughout the day with high winds blowing, then switch back over to snow this evening with the temps going down to about 24*. Going to be cold, windy, and icy tomorrow.

The main thing that struck me when i've ( rarely ) been in those heavy windless snow falls is how dead quiet it gets, why is that?

Just outside of DC we have about 18" of snow as of this morning. The blizzard I was promised has failed to materialize. All in all, pretty disappointed. As for preparations, we could live for a while and we would just be cold, but have plenty of food, water, and batteries.

Snow is a sound insulator and it covers the things that make noise when other things fall on it (dried twigs and leaves). This causes it so be very quiet.

Hard to tell the amount we currently have due to drifts but there is over a food on the sidewalk and still more coming.

That plus no one is on the roads and the animals have taken to ground. Temp is 27* and the wind is howling.
