I ended up with about 3 feet of snow -- higher in some places where it has drifted. With a 300 yard driveway and no plow I am going to be home for a while. Since I moved to WV I have always gotten out of my drive via a 4 wheel drive vehicle, but this was in snows a foot or less. I am going to have to look into buying a plow that will attach to a Ford Ranger or Nissan Xterra.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

    Not this man.

Spent 6 hours shoveling today. Snow on the street was up to my waist, moved several dozen wheelbarrow load of it to a big pile at the end of the block. Still hoping they call off work tomorrow.

Yeah, we had almost hurricane force winds for about 12 hours, and we under tornado watches and warnings most of the day, not to mention a lot of rain. My area missed most of the worse weather, but south of me, VA Eastern Shore got hit hard. 4 people were killed in heavy winds, and north of me had stronger winds and heavier rain and t-storms.

It wasn't too bad in my area. I was just worried about the trees falling on the house (surrounded by woods).

The western shore got hit pretty hard, too.

So far, I've got about 5" of snow and it's still coming down pretty heavily right now. We were predicted to get between 1" and 3" of snow before it turned to rain, then back to snow. North of me was supposed to get 6" to 8" and farther north, from DC on up was predicted to get 12" to 24".

So far, the weatherman was a little low on the snowfall amounts. It's supposed to snow into tomorrow morning, slowly turn to rain, then to sleet, then back to snow (1"-3" at the end). Couple this with nighttime temps in the mid-20's and we might get an ice storm before it's over.

I've got everything I need to ride this one out, so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy it.

How are you all making out? If you're north or northwest of me, you should be getting dumped on. Hope everybody's okay.

I'm in Western NY where we usually get tons of snow due to the water vapor coming off Lake Erie. This winter, we barely got any snow at all... probably a grand total of 6 inches, made up mostly of dustings.

I did "survive" the "Blizzard of '77" though. It took me 6 hours and 3/4 tank of gas to get home, but I finally made it.

A few pics of the blizzard......

    "Blizzard survivors"?

You gotta live through the "White Death" before you can call yourself a "blizzard survivor"....

L 48ers are rather amusing during winter.

It's hilarious... the people in the south who barely get any snow at all are paralyzed by an inch of snow. They close schools and businesses, cars that do dare to go out and drive end up spun out in a ditch, traffic jams for miles...

In Western NY, we don't even REALIZE that it's snowing unless there's a foot or more on the ground...
