    Question Remington Nylon 66 collectible?

I've had one for probably 20 years if not closer to 30. I've shot it a fair amount and it's still in VG+ to excellent condition. I know they've been out of production since 1989 but never really thought much about it being collectible or having much value, IIRC I paid under $100 new for mine at Big 5 Sporting Goods when I was stationed in San Diego. Anyway, the latest issue of Guns & Ammo has an article by the editor about looking for a Nylon 66 for one of his children. He found a variant, don't recall the model, that takes a detachable mag. It was missing the mag, front site and had surface rust all over. He wrote that he bought it for $400, bought a mag and front site and had the barrel and receiver cover re-blued. I have no idea what he's into it for but I was thinking a lot more than the rifle is worth.

Last night I was surfing the VA GunTrader website and noticed a guy selling good condition Nylon 66 for $400. I haven't done much more searching yet but I'm starting to wonder if this old plinker of mine is worth a fair bit more than I thought it was?

The original Nylon 66s had a tubular magazine. The were updated with a detachable box when I bought one in the early 90s. Wish I still had it. They had a variant that was black nylon with a stainless steel barrel that I thought looked really sharp.

As to the original question, I just bought a book of gun values. When I get home I will check it out and post the price if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Thats why i put the picture of the butt and mag well of my 77. When they updated to the Detachable mag they called that model the 77 if i am not mistaken.

Ok, so I have seen the brown ones with the blued barrels (that is what my dad taught me BRM on when I was about 6) and I have seen the black ones with the stainless barrels. I have a GREEN one with blued barrel. The rifle as a whole is pretty rough, but it still shoots straight. The only issues I have are with the aftermarket mags. They won't hold a full mag load and tend to jam. I will be loading rounds into it and when I get about 6-7 in there they all just come flying out all at once. I can only load about 5-6 in each with out having any issues. I will put a picture up when I get home.

I remember seeing those at pawn shops and garage sales for $50 or so. Now I see the at $250 to over $400. Seem a lot of us old guys learned to shoot on one and want another in their collection...

I got mine when my dad died and left it to me. It has the tubular mag (mod. 66) and I'm not sure if it's ever been fired. It looks to be in mint condition.

From the Gun Digest Book of Modern Gun Values a Nylon 66 is valued at $175 for good, $225 for VG, and $285 for Excellent.

Here are some pics of mine. Like I said before, everything works great, except the mags. It has wear on the barrel and scuff marks all over the stock.
