"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"
Wow, 11,000 parts in that engine....a mechanics nightmare
The engineering and design of the engine is amazing , but what impresses me the most is the logistics involved in getting it from the drawing board and into the airplane
I think it was Goering who asked Adolf Galand, his fighter general, what he needed to win the battle of Britain. His reply was "spitfires".
With Spitfires being powered by the mighty Merlin engine. Also, the Mustang and Lancaster were powered by Merlins. Also, I read a deal about a guy who sawed two cylinders off a Merlin to make a motorcycle engine... a motorcycle engine with pistons the diameter of dinner plates.
